Luther Loomis married Elizabeth Leavitt on 3 January 1810 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT.1 Hon. Luther Loomis died on 31 March 1866 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT, at age 84.1

Luther was a member of the Connecticut State Senate, as a member at large, from 1823-26. He was a merchant in New York City until the British drove him out during the War of 1812. Afterwards, he resided in Suffield. Once he was nominated for Governor. He served as Judge of Probate and as a member of the State House of Representatives. 1
