Ernest Franklin Holcomb, 98, a resident of Avon Health Center for the past five years, died Monday (July 10, 2000). He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Mabel Holcomb of Bristol; three grandchildren, Sandra Holten of Long Island, NY, Robin Timmons of Ellington and Les Twible of Cary, NC; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Velma J. Holcomb; his son, Duane Holcomb; his daughter, Grace Jean Twible; his son-in-law, Robert Twible; a grandchild, Ronald Twible; and a great grandchild, Wendy Holten. Mr. Holcomb was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA and of the Masonic Lodge in Unionville. He was born and raised as a dairy farmer in Southwick, MA and moved with his wife to Manchester in the early 1920s. He became an innovative master auto mechanic and settled in Unionville with his wife and children in the early 1930s. Mr. Holcomb is best remembered as an honest, fair, and successful business owner of the Round Hill Service Station then on Farmington Ave. in Farmington during a 20 year period after World War II. He experienced a dramatic helicopter rescue at his place of business during the flood of Aug. 19, 1955. He lived in retirement with his wife for 23 years in Aiken, SC and was very active with his church and in helping his many neighbors and friends there. He returned to live with his family in Unionville in 1989. He was an avid storyteller, fisherman and gardener. There will be a private service held, burial at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Rose Hill Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

     Mary Elizabeth Myers was born on 8 September 1913.1 She married Myron Edward Kelly, son of George Edward Kelly and Helen Adams, on 28 March 1942. Mary Elizabeth Myers died on 26 July 2005 at Versailles, Ripley Co., IN, at age 91.1 She was buried on 28 July 2005 at Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro, Dearborn Co., IN.

Mary E. Kelly, 91, of Versailles, formerly of Elrod, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon. She was born at Allensville in Switzerland County on September 8, 1913, the daughter of Val Fred Myers and Ollie Fancher Myers. She was married to Myron Kelly on March 28, 1942 and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1997.
Survivors include one son, Robert Kelly and wife Glenda of Scipio; one grandson, Brian Kelly of Scipio; one sister, Pauline Richards of Vevay. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Wm. Myers; sisters, Elma Voris, Mildred Etherton, and Ruth Koons.
Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the Milan Furniture Factory and US Shoe.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 27 from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro.

WESTFIELD - Harold L. "Red" Holcomb, 78, of 2C Kasper Dr. in Westfield died Tuesday at Noble Hospital. He was born January 29, 1924 in Southwick son of the late Reuben L. and Elizabeth C. (Lee) Holcomb, and has lived in Westfield since 1994. He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor at Woronoco Bank in Westfield for nine years retiring in 1992. He also worked for the former Bendix Grinding Wheel in Chester, Prifti Motors, Germano Car Dealership, Jahn Foundry, Anderson and Sons, and General Cigar. Red was a US Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater and a former member of American Legion Post 338 and VFW Post 872 both in Southwick. He was also a member of the Southwick Volunteer Fire Dept. He was predeceased by two wives, Mary (Mehan) Holcomb and Gloria (Grove) Holcomb. Red leaves two daughters, Katherine Snow and her husband Steven of Westfield, and Rosemary A. Schmidt of Woronoco. He also leaves a sister, Marjorie E. Rutherford of Westfield. He also leaves a step-son, Edward Grove of Southwick and two step-daughters. Sheila LaPointe of Southwick, and Janice Gustafson of Hampton VA; and nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield with burial in the Spring in New Cemetery Southwick.
