Obituary of Amoret Case, Springfield Republican, June 18, 1894
DEATH OF MRS COL CASE
The many friends of Mrs Amoret Pamelia Root, widow of Col H N Case were shocked at the announcement of her sudden death which occured from apoplexy at her Maple street home yesterday morning. Mrs Case had been in fairly good health for several months and Saturday afternoon enjoyed the usual ride which formed a feature of her life, so the apopletic stroke which came on yesterday morning about 8 o'clock was wholly unexpected. She expired two hours later, her niece Miss Sarah J Moore, being at her bedside. Mrs Case who was the daughter of Joel Root of East Granville, was born at that place January 17, 1815. There were four children in the family, Mrs Case, the late Mrs Roger S Moore of this city, Mrs Calvin Spencer of Hartford, Ct., and a son who died at a early age. Her marriage to Col Case took place at the residence of Roger S Moore in this city October 9, 1850 . Mr and Mrs Spencer of Hartford being married at the same time. Col and Mrs Case boarded in this city for several years and then Col Case bought the house on Maple street which has since become the family homestead. Mrs Case was a prominent figure in the social life of the city for many years, her generous nature making her home a center of hospitality. She was a woman of loveable disposition and in the course of her life gave much unostentatious charity. She attended the church of the Unity. Since the death of her husband May 24, 1889, Mrs Case has lived quietly at home. She leaves beside her sister Mrs Sarah Spencer of Hartford, three nieces, Miss Sarah J Moore of this city and Mrs Charles E Gross and Mrs James U Taintor, both of Hartford. The funeral will be held at the house Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
