Alton wrote: "The marriage of my daughter Patrice may seem odd to an outsider but it is understandable to her Dad. She was a child of a broken home and at the age of 17 married a boy she had known since the age of six. They were very happy but Eugene was drowned wild duck hunting four months and eight days after their marriage. So Pat was both a widow and a mother at the age of 18. She then married Gene's best friend, Raymond Richardson, who was in the boat with Gene and witnessed his drowning." ³
