Rural Letter Carriers Assoc., Branch 29. She also worked for CT. General Life Insurance Co (CIGNA) Bloomfield, CT. and the Suffield School System. She was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School, Asnuntuck Community College, Enfield, CT., Springfield College, Springfield, MA., and past President of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society at Asnuntuck.
Dorothy was a member of the West Suffield Congregational Church and former Sunday school teacher and advisor to the youth group of the church. She was a lifelong member and former officer of the Order of Eastern Star, No. 205, in East Longmeadow, MA., and a former advisor to the Rainbow Girls
She was a member of several historical societies including the MA Society of Mayflower Descendants, CT., Society of Genealogists, Windsor Historical Society, Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor, Simsbury Genealogical and Historical Research Library, Suffield Historical Society, French-Canadian Genealogical Society of CT., CT Gravestone Network, Citrus County Genealogical Society of FL., and former officer in the Sibyl Dwight Kent Chapter DAR in Suffield. She was also a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Dorothy was a direct descendant of William Bradford, Richard Warren, Francis Cooke, and Stephen Hopkins of the ship “Mayflower”.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Holcomb, and her son, David C. Holcomb. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Kipp, her son-in-law, Timothy Kipp, and her two beloved grandsons, Wyatt and Austin. She leaves siblings, Robert Landers and Beverly Landers, several nieces and nephews, and pre-deceased siblings Richard Landers and Jane Mortenson. Burial will be in West Suffield Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., the American Cancer Society, or the West Suffield Congregational Church.

David C. Holcomb, 39, of West Suffield, passed away Thursday, (November 26, 2009) at home with his family by his side after a long illness. Born February 8, 1970 in Hartford, son of Charles and Dorothy (Landers) Holcomb, he grew up in West Suffield and graduated from Howell Cheney Tech, Manchester. There he received an award in the National Honor Society and the DAR Good Citizenship program. He represented the State of CT in the VICA program in Phoenix, AZ as the youngest high school student in CT to compete as an electrician. He became a master electrician and taught students at Cheney Tech in the electrical trade. David worked for Electrical Union Local 35, Home Depot, and he had his own business, D.C. Holcomb Electric. He was a mason and held office at Warren Lodge # 51 , Portland. Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Susan Holcomb Kipp and her husband, Tim of MD; two nephews, Wyatt and Austin Kipp. His family wants to thank Hospice for all the help given to David. Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Burial will be in West Suffield Cemetery, West Suffield. His family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Suffield Congregational Church, 1408 Mountain Rd., West Suffield, CT 06093 or to Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founder's Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06108.
