Ada was raised near Dow City and attended the Dow City consolidated School where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1929. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's college and taught in the public schools of Crawford county for six years. Ada and George were married at the Little Brown chruch in Nashua, Iowa. During their first years of marriage they lived in the Denison, Iowa. In 1944 the family moved to Jefferson. Funeral services for Ada were held Monday, Nov 7 at the Slininger chapel with the Rev. Dick Harberts of the Jefferson Presbyterian church in charge. Burial was in the Oakland cemetery in Denison.

Ruth Elizabeth Hallowell
b. 7 August 1918, d. 11 January 1921
Ruth contracted scarlet fever which rapidly developed into pneumonia, causing her death in spite of all the attendion of loving hands and medical skill. She died in Webster City, her body was accompanied to Dow City by her father. Because of the nature of the disease, no public funeral was held; a short and appropriate service was conducted at the grave by Rev. Walter C. Plank, of the local Methodist church. Her mother and other members of the family were not able to attend because they had also contacted scarlet fever and were at home quarantined. Ruth Elizabeth Hallowell was buried at Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Crawford Co., IA. She was born on 7 August 1918 at Dow City, Crawford Co., IA. She was the daughter of Joseph Elmer Hallowell and Daisy Helen Glassburner. Ruth Elizabeth Hallowell died on 11 January 1921 at Dow City, Crawford Co., IA, at age 2.

Marcia was born at the family home near Dow City. Her entire life was spent in that community. Baptized in early childhood, she was a member of the Methodist Sunday school. At the age of twelve she united with the Methodist Episcopal church. She was a member of the junior class at the Dow City high school and an active member of the glee club when she died at the Denison hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Methodist church conducted by her pastor, rev. d. I. Hower. Interment was made in the Dow City cemetery.

Richard Eugene Hallowell, the son of Joseph and Daisy Glassburner Hallowell, was born in the family farm house just outside Dow City, Iowa, on March 22, 1930. On February 12, 2016, he passed away with his son at his side at the Golden Years and More assisted living home in Manassas, Virginia.
Richard, the youngest of seven brothers and sisters, attended the Dow City Consolidated Schools until March of his freshman year, when he moved with his parents and sister Frances to Jefferson, Iowa. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1948 and attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, until 1953. In January 1954, he entered the United States Air Force and, after initial training, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant as a Navigator on April 7, 1955.
On July 10, 1955, Richard was united in marriage to Helen Lorraine Thrailkill at the First Methodist Church Chapel of Harlingen, Texas. They had one son, Gary Michael. Richard, Helen, and Gary spent the next 20 years traveling the world while he served in the United States Air Force and ended up in the Northern Virginia area.
Following his years with the Air Force, Richard worked another three years in Washington, DC, for the Federal Communications Commission. In the spring of 1977, he and his wife Helen moved out west to build their retirement home near Monument, Colorado. He and Helen lived in Colorado for the next 18 years until the warmer weather of Arizona beckoned. They moved to Mesa, Arizona, in the spring of 1995. He and Helen enjoyed the rest of their retirement there until her passing in January 2009. Richard remained in the greater Phoenix area until the summer of 2014 when he moved back east to Virginia to be close to his son and family.
Richard is survived by his son Gary (and wife Cindy), granddaughter Melissa (and husband John), granddaughter Kathleen, and great grandson Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his parents and each of his siblings: Mamie Helen, Ada Lois, Don Joseph, Ruth Elizabeth, Marcia Janet, and Frances Lorraine.
