Russell began teaching at the age of seventeen, and was engaged in that profession for eighteen years. He enlisted as Orderly Sergeant, in the 145th Reg. O. V. I., and continued with it during its term of service in the War of the Rebellion; re-enlisted in the 88th Reg. O. V. I., served till the close of the war and was honorably discharged 3 July, 1865. He has been a member and officer in the Methodist Episcopal Church for forty years, and the same in its Sabbath-School for forty-five years. He is a drug, book and stationery dealer. Resides (1883) in Lewis Center, Ohio, where he has lived for twenty years. 3

Mary went with her parents to Ohio in 1836. since their marriage they have resided in Powell, OH. Prior to that date Mr. Hall had chiefly folllowed the avocation of teaching. He is now (1883) engaged in the drug trade, and is known as a gentleman of probity and excellent influence.3

     Levi Hall AM, MD was born on 26 October 1833 at Powell, Delaware Co., OH.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Russell Hall and Eliza Humphrey.1 Levi Hall AM, MD married Lucinda Mitchell on 10 April 1855.1

Dr. Hall entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1854, having obtained his education in the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, O., which, in 1875, conferred upon him the degree of A. M. He was connected with the Ohio Conference and constantly engaged in pastoral work till 1872, when he united with the Minnesota Conference and continued his ministerial labors in that State, at the same time pursuing the study of medicine, till the 23d Feb. 1882, when he graduated M. D. from the Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago, Ill., since which time he has been settled and engaged in the active practice of this profession in Minneapolis, Minn; --res (1883) No. 77 Highland Avenue. 3

John Lemuel Hall1

b. 9 September 1837, d. 29 November 1864
     John Lemuel Hall was born on 9 September 1837 at Powell, Delaware Co., OH.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Russell Hall and Eliza Humphrey.1 John Lemuel Hall died on 29 November 1864 at Spring Hill, TN, at age 27.1,2 He was buried at Nashville, Davidson Co., TN.2

John remained with his parents till the war of the Rebellion; enlisted in Co. C., 26th Reg. O. V. I., on the first call for volunteers for three months. At the expiration of that term of service he re-enlisted in the same company and regiment, for three years. In 1863, he became a veteran in the same regiment, and was killed at Spring Hill, GA.(TN?), late in the year 1864, while guarding a provision train. He was in every engagement of his regiment up to the time of this death;--was never off duty on account of sickness, and was never reported for failing to obey orders. His grave is unknown. He was unmarried.3

Thomas Stephen Hall1

     Thomas Stephen Hall was born on 10 September 1842 at Liberty, Delaware Co., OH.1 He was the son of Thomas Russell Hall and Eliza Humphrey.1 Thomas Stephen Hall married Frances A. Topliff, daughter of Franklin Topliff and Sabra McIntosh, on 12 November 1863 at Delaware, Delaware Co., OH.1,2 Thomas Stephen Hall died on 27 April 1894 at Delaware Co., OH, at age 51.2 He was buried at Powell Cemetery, Powell, Delaware Co., OH.2

Thomas is an engineer, in charge of the Steam and Water Works at the Girls' Industrial Home, at Delaware, O. Has been associated with that institution, in various capacities, for the past twelve years (1883).3 He suffered from heatstroke while serving during the Civil War as a private in Company C of the 86th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a three-month unit which served in West Virginia during the summer of 1862. However, he later served briefly as a lieutenant in Company K. of the 145th Ohio Volunteer Infantry with his brothers.4

     Theodore Barzilla S. Hall was born on 20 September 1846 at Powell, Delaware Co., OH.1 He was the son of Thomas Russell Hall and Eliza Humphrey.1 Theodore Barzilla S. Hall died on 31 July 1864 at Nashville, Davidson Co., TN, at age 17.1

Theodore enlisted in 1863, at the age of seventeen, in Co. C, 26th Reg. O. V. I., to which regiment and company his brother John Lemuel Hall belonged. In the battle of Kennesaw Mountain, in June, 1864, he was wounded while scaling the Rebel works; was taken to the Hospital at Nashville, Tenn., and there died of typhoid fever, in the August following. He was buried in the Union Soldiers' Cemetery at Nashville.

John Clinton Wilson1

John served three years as a soldier in the war of the Rebellion; was wounded at the battle of Winchester; and by exposure, in January, 1864, lost his voice, and was therefore assigned to hospital duty. They have no children of their own, but hav an adopted duaghter, Mabel Myers Wilson, b. 13 Sept. 1870, at Solon, Iowa.2

William Parker Wilson1

b. 8 February 1841
     William Parker Wilson was born on 8 February 1841 at Sharon (now Wadsworth), Medina Co., OH.1 He was the son of John Wilson and Sarah Humphrey.1 William Parker Wilson married Elizabeth Huffman, daughter of Phillip Huffman and Lucy Penell Corron, on 20 September 1883.2

William, with his older brother John Clinton Wilson, enlisted in Co. E, 28th Reg. Iowa Vol. Infantry, in August 1862, and served without a furlough till the end of the war. After sundry services in Arkansas they entered upon the memorable vicksburgh campaign, 11 April, 1863, in the Second Brigade, Third Division, 13th Army Corps; fought in the battles of Port Gibson and Champion Hills, and for six weeks were under the enemy's fire, day and night, through the siege of Vicksburgh; after its surrender, were sent to capture Jackson. They were afterwards in the Gulf Department through Bank's Red River campaign; were ordered thence to Sheridan in Virginia, participating in the battles of Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, &c., and then, till the close of the war, were at various points along the Atlantic coast. William P. Wilson lost his right eye by an accident, in the line of duty, near vicksburgh; --has entered claims of government lands near Plankington, Dakota, where he resides (1883).3

Mr. Gillespie is a graduate of both the Collegiate and Law Department of the Iowa State University, and is at present engaged in educational work. They reside (1883) Iowa City, Iowa.2
