     President William Howard Taft was born on 15 September 1857 at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH.¹ He was the son of US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft and Louisa Maria Torrey. President William Howard Taft died on 8 March 1930 at Washington, DC, at age 72.¹

     Louisa Maria Torrey was the daughter of Samuel Davenport Torrey and Susan Holman Waters. Louisa Maria Torrey married US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft, son of Peter Rawson Taft and Sylvia Howard, on 26 December 1853.¹

     US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft was born on 5 November 1810 at Townshend, VT.^1,2 He was the son of Peter Rawson Taft and Sylvia Howard.¹ US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft married Fanny Phelps, daughter of Charles Phelps and Eliza Houghton, on 29 August 1841.³ US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft married Louisa Maria Torrey, daughter of Samuel Davenport Torrey and Susan Holman Waters, on 26 December 1853.³ US Atty. Gen. Alphonso Taft died on 21 May 1891 at San Diego, San Diego Co., CA, at age 80.²
