He served during the Civil War in the 47th Heavy Artillery; was stationed at Long Bridge, Washington, D.C., to catch Booth after the assassination of Lincoln, but Booth had already passed.

Information on the children is from the Springfield Vital Records. George Whitfield Cooley was born on 6 August 1845 at East Longmeadow, MA. He was the son of Cyrus Cooley and Deniah Moran. George Whitfield Cooley died in March 1923 at age 77.

Frank E. Cooley1

     From the Cooley Genealogy:

Gen. Frank E. Cooley attended the 1936 meeting of The Cooley Family Association in Springfield, and was the oldest member fo the family at that meeting. He was then 89 years of age. He supplied information on the descendants of Cyrus Cooley, his father, for this genealogy.

During the Civil War, Frank E. Cooley served in the 8th Mass. Inf., enlisting at the age of 17. He is now Quartermastr General of the New York G. A. R.

General Cooley was a banker until his retirement after 26 years of service. On this occasion he was presented with a beautiful silver service marked with his monogram; this silver service will become the property of John Cooley Jordan, his oldest great grnadson. Frank E. Cooley was born on 22 January 1847 at East Longmeadow, MA. He was the son of Cyrus Cooley and Deniah Moran. Frank E. Cooley married Laura A. Healey, daughter of Dennison Healey and Harmony Herrick, on 21 April 1869 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. Frank E. Cooley lived in 1939 at Rensselaer, Rensselaer Co., NY.

Francis was a Director of the First National Bank, the Conn. Mutual Live Ins. Co., the Conn. Fire Ins. Co., the Morris Plan Bank, Hartford City Gas & Light Co., Landers, Frary & Clark, American Hosiery Co., etc. He was Treas. fo the Conn. Humane Society[, Pres. of the Charitable Society, Chairman of the Trustees of the YWCA, a member of SCE and of SAR. He belonged to the University Club, Yale Club (of New York), Hartford Golf, Hartford Yacht Club, etc. (see Who's Who in America.)

He was a great-great-grandson of TIMOTHY ROBINSON, a Sergeant, who fougnt at Ticonderoga, and was afterward made Colonel in the Colonial Armyh. He was also a memeber of the first and thrid provincial congresses of Massachusetts.

He was also a great-great-grandson of ELISHA PORTER of Hadley, Massachusetts, Colonel of a Massachusetts regiment serving under General Gates at Saratoga. He was detailed by General Gates to convey Burgoyne, as a prisoner, to Boston. On the journey the party passed through Hadley, and Colonel Porter entertained General Burgoyne at his house. As a mark of esteem, the General presented his dress-sword and his tent-equipments to his host. They are now (1891) in the possession of his descendant, Samuel D. Smith of Hadley. Francis Rexford Cooley was born on 21 November 1863 at New York City, NY. He was the son of Francis Buel Cooley and Clarissa Alexander Smith. Francis Rexford Cooley was graduated in 1886 at BA; Yale, New Haven, New Haven Co., CT. He married Alice Cleveland Browne, daughter of John Dean Browne and Frances Woodward Cleveland, on 15 October 1890. Francis Rexford Cooley died on 15 November 1933 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 69.

Roger William Cooley, lawyer and lecturer, was educated at the Univeristy of Michigan (Litt. B., 1882), and the University of North Dakota (LL.M., 1913). He was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1884, and served as secretary of the commission to revise the laws of Dakota in 1887. He was associate editor of Century Digest, 1896-1902; instructor in insurance, St. Paul College of Law, and special lecturer in thelaw schools of the Universities of Minnesota, Michigan and Chicago, 1906-1911. He was professor of law, University of North Dakota, after 1911. He was the author of numerous books on law and insurance. Roger William Cooley was born on 25 December 1859 at Decorah, IA. He was the son of Ezekiel E. Cooley and Jeannie M. Rhodes. Roger William Cooley married Eliza W. Booth, daughter of Maj. John C. Booth, on 17 March 1887. Roger William Cooley died on 7 November 1931 at Grand Forks, ND, at age 71.
