     David Humphrey was born on 24 April 1813 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ David Humphrey died on 8 September 1838 at Velasco, Brazoria Co., TX, at age 25.¹

David entered Amherst College, but graduated at Union College, Schenectady, N. Y; studied law, but had not commenced to practice at the time of his death.

Mr. M. S. Dyer writes: "The aptitude of the Humphreys to learn and retain, was illustrated in David, son of Col. Decius, and brother of Solon Humphreys, of New York. While David was at school at Amherst he wrote a short poem which he showed me. I read it over twice, and the next time I saw him I repeated the whole of it to him. He remarked that he wished he could remember as well. I told him he could if he would try. After two or three months he called on me and said that he had followed my instructions and could repeat anything that he carefully studied, telling me to write one hundred names of any persons or places, and he would read them and repeat them the next day. I wrote the one hundred names of any that I could think of, mostly ancient, some modern. He read them over twice, handed the paper back to me, and the day or two after called and repeated them forward and backward without a mistake. I never say any other person that could do it."²

     Rachel Humphrey was born on 18 February 1815 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams. Rachel Humphrey married James Samuel Hatch, son of Timothy L. Hatch and Sarah Walker Shepperd, on 1 September 1836 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 Rachel Humphrey died in October 1859 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, at age 44.

James and Rachel resided in Collinsville, Ct., till 1851, then removed to Muscatine, Iowa, and he engaged in mercantiel pursuits. He was much esteemed by all who knew him.³

     Marcia M. Humphrey was born on 26 May 1817 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ Marcia M. Humphrey died on 13 August 1819 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT, at age 2.¹

     Seth Humphrey was born on 5 September 1819 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ Seth Humphrey married Mary Elizabeth Jarboe, daughter of James Madison Jarboe and Nancy Burner, on 19 October 1854 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹

Mr. Seth Humphreys has in his possession an account of some of the descendants of his great-grandfather, Capt. Ezekiel Humphrey, which was prepared, about 1852, by his brother, Mr. George D. Humphreys with the assistance of his father, who had carefully preserved the records of his branch of the Humphreys family. In 1869, Colonel Decius Humphreys wrote a letter to the author, expressing his willingness to advance this work, which was then in progress, and referring to sources of information which showed his long familiarity with the subject, and the desire which he felt that the genealogy should be brought to a successful issue. Seth resided in 1884 in Muscatine, Iowa; no children.²

     Solon Humphrey was born on 27 October 1821 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹

     Laura Humphrey was born on 22 February 1824 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ Laura Humphrey died on 3 December 1825 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT, at age 1.¹

     George D. Humphrey was born on 2 December 1827 at North Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹

     Laura Humphrey was born on 15 April 1830 at North Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ Laura Humphrey married Homer Caswell Clary, son of Daniel Clary and Mary Lucinda Wilcox, on 17 October 1850 at her father's residence, Huron, OH.¹

Homer was a farmer, residing, in 1883, in Monroeville, OH.²

     Mary Humphrey was born on 26 January 1834 at North Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams.¹ Mary Humphrey married Charles Stone, son of Calvin R. Stone and Susan Fitch, on 25 March 1856 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹

Charles was a hardware merchand and farmer. They resided in 1883, in Muscatine.²

     Samuel William Brown MD was born on 24 April 1802 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of William Brown and Rachel Bishop. Samuel William Brown MD married Hannah Humphrey, daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams, on 22 March 1834 at North Canton, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Samuel William Brown MD died on 30 January 1862 at apoplexy, Petaluma, Sanoma Co., CA, at age 59.¹

     William Brown was born in 1764.¹ He was the son of Samuel Brown and Hannah Landon.¹ William Brown died in 1803.¹

     Mason Cogswell Brown was born on 31 December 1834 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey.¹ Mason Cogswell Brown died on 11 September 1852 at Washington, Nevada Co., CA, at age 17.¹

     Frances Rose Brown was born on 10 September 1837 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey. Frances Rose Brown died on 19 March 1841 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT, at age 3.

     Alfred Bishop Brown was born on 26 October 1841 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey.¹ Alfred Bishop Brown married Mary Ellen Groendycke, daughter of Asa Taft Groendycke and Louisa Currier, on 10 May 1876 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹

Alfred resided (1884) in Muscatine, Iowa, where he was cashier in the banking house of G. A. Garrettson & Co.²

     Samuel Brown was born in 1726.¹ He died in 1815.¹

     Mary Ellen Groendycke was born on 4 October 1842 at at or near Coldwater, Branch Co., MI.¹ She was the daughter of Asa Taft Groendycke and Louisa Currier. Mary Ellen Groendycke married Gilbert Bradley Dow, son of Ezekiel Dow and Elizabeth Bradley, on 23 February 1862.¹ Mary Ellen Groendycke married Alfred Bishop Brown, son of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey, on 10 May 1876 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹

     Gilbert Bradley Dow was also known as George Bradley Dow. He was born on 3 October 1826 at Hopokinton, NH.¹ He was the son of Ezekiel Dow and Elizabeth Bradley.² Gilbert Bradley Dow married Mary Ellen Groendycke, daughter of Asa Taft Groendycke and Louisa Currier, on 23 February 1862.¹ Gilbert Bradley Dow died on 4 October 1873 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, at age 47.^1,3

     Harriet Augusta Dow was born on 28 February 1863. She was the daughter of Gilbert Bradley Dow and Mary Ellen Groendycke.

     Edward Harrington Dow was born on 10 August 1866. He was the son of Gilbert Bradley Dow and Mary Ellen Groendycke. Edward Harrington Dow died on 16 November 1877 at age 11.

     Charles Silverman Dow was born on 20 December 1872.¹ He was the son of Gilbert Bradley Dow and Mary Ellen Groendycke.¹

     Frederick Griffing Brown was born on 24 February 1877 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ He was the son of Alfred Bishop Brown and Mary Ellen Groendycke.¹

     Sarah Brown was born on 23 April 1880 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ She was the daughter of Alfred Bishop Brown and Mary Ellen Groendycke.¹

     Mary Ann Brown was born on 11 January 1844 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey.¹ Mary Ann Brown died on 4 November 1852 at Washington, Nevada Co., CA, at age 8.¹

     Sarah Brown was born on 27 August 1846 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel William Brown MD and Hannah Humphrey.¹

     James Samuel Hatch was also known as Samuel James Hatch.² He was born on 9 March 1810 at Blanford, Hampden Co., MA.^1,2 He was the son of Timothy L. Hatch and Sarah Walker Shepperd. James Samuel Hatch married Rachel Humphrey, daughter of Colonel Decius Humphrey and Laura Adams, on 1 September 1836 at Canton, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 James Samuel Hatch died on 16 February 1873 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA, at age 62.^1,2

     Timothy L. Hatch was born on 12 March 1779 at East Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Major Timothy Hatch and Lucretia Rockwell.² Timothy L. Hatch died on 23 June 1853 at Blanford, Hampden Co., MA, at age 74.¹

     John Barlow Hatch was born on 11 September 1838 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of James Samuel Hatch and Rachel Humphrey.¹

In 1884 John and Minnie resided in Des Moines, Iowa; no children.²

     Alice Eliza Hatch was born on 13 July 1842 at Collinsville, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of James Samuel Hatch and Rachel Humphrey.

In 1883, Alice and Charles were residing in Minneapolis, Minn.²

     Mary Louise Wingate was born on 23 October 1863.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Edmund Wingate and Alice Eliza Hatch.¹

     Nellie Humphrey Wingate was born on 27 October 1865.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Edmund Wingate and Alice Eliza Hatch.¹

     Abbie Emily Wingate was born on 10 July 1872.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Edmund Wingate and Alice Eliza Hatch.¹ Abbie Emily Wingate died on 26 February 1877 at age 4.¹
