James was a farmer until moving to California in the early 1940's for Grachia's health, settling in Lynwood. He worked in various grocery markets until becoming a manager at Jim Dandy's, which later became Lucky's Market. After his retirement, he and Grachia moved to Beaumont, California, where Grachia's health worsened and they moved to Sun City, California, in 1973 to be close to their two children who lived in nearby Canyon Lake. Grachia died one year later and James remarried five years later at the age of 74 years to Beatrice Hansen who was divorced with seven children and was 26 years younger than James.¹

     James Walter Hayes was born on 18 December 1905 at Robinson, AR.^1,2 He was the son of Fletcher Hayes and Mary Bruner.¹ James Walter Hayes married Grachia Belle Brough Bement, daughter of Marion Sylvester Bement and Anna Pearl Lankford, on 28 September 1927 at Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR.¹ James Walter Hayes died on 21 September 1994 at Colton, CA, at age 88.^1,2

     Daniel Humphrey was born circa 1750 at Goshen, Litchfield Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Ensign Samuel Humphrey and Mary Orton.¹ Daniel Humphrey married Naomi Elmore, daughter of Daniel Elmore and Mary Norton.¹ Daniel Humphrey died circa 1800.¹
