     Levinda Root was born on 23 May 1791 at Lenox, Berkshire Co., MA.¹ She was the daughter of Oliver Root and Anna Holcombe.¹

     Hiram Root was born on 18 August 1793 at Lenox, Berkshire Co., MA.¹ He was the son of Oliver Root and Anna Holcombe.¹

     George Washington Holcombe was born on 22 October 1824.¹ He was the son of John Holcombe and Mary Wentworth.¹ George Washington Holcombe married Caroline Susan Webster, daughter of Zenas Webster and Parnell Palmer, on 1 February 1849.¹ George Washington Holcombe died on 18 April 1871 at age 46.²

Caroline is a direct descendant of Gov. John Webster of Connecticut.

George and Caroline were enumerated in the 1850 Warren Co., IL, federal census. He was a cooper, age 27, she was 24. There were no children in the family.

The Webster Genealogy indicates they lived near Kirkwood, Warren Co., IL; the Holcombe genealogy indicates the children were all born in Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.

     Caroline Susan Webster was also known as Cornelia S. Webster.² She was born on 22 September 1826.^1,2 She was the daughter of Zenas Webster and Parnell Palmer.¹ Caroline Susan Webster married George Washington Holcombe, son of John Holcombe and Mary Wentworth, on 1 February 1849.¹ Caroline Susan Webster died on 4 June 1871 at Kirkwood, Warren Co., IL, at age 44.^1,2 She was buried at Kirkwood, Warren Co., IL.

     Zenas Webster was born on 3 September 1786.¹ He married Parnell Palmer on 1 December 1814. Zenas Webster died on 14 May 1844 at age 57.¹

     Parnell Palmer was also known as Pamela.² She was born on 25 February 1794.¹ She married Zenas Webster on 1 December 1814. Parnell Palmer died on 18 July 1872 at age 78.¹

     Cordelia Parnell Holcombe was born on 5 May 1851 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹ Cordelia Parnell Holcombe married James Henry Cummings on 17 April 1873.³ Cordelia Parnell Holcombe died on 10 April 1914 at age 62.⁴

"Jas" and Cordelia were enumerated in the 1880 Tompkins, Warren Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer age 33, she was 29. Children in the household were Ida 5, George 4, and Mable 1.

"Jas" H. and Cordelia were enumerated in the 1900 Kirkwood Village, Tompkins Township, Warren Co., IL, federal census. He was a farmer age 54, her age was not ledgible. Cordelia had given birth to nine children, seven of whom were still living and five still at home: Mable 21, Frederick 19, Clyde 16, Guy 12, and Earl 8.

James H. and Cordelia were enumerated in the 1910 NorthBurlington, SkagitCo., WA, federal census. He was a farmer, age 64, she was 59. Cordelia had givenbirth to nine children, six of whom were still living and three still at home: Guy 22, Mable 30, and Earl 20.

     Effie Sophronia Holcombe was born on 25 May 1853 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹

     Guy Hollis Holcombe was born on 1 March 1855 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 He was the son of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹

     Pamela Thomas Holcombe was born on 30 March 1857 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹ Pamela Thomas Holcombe married Clark Lamphere on 27 August 1874.³

Pamela's birth date is given as 1849 by McPherson, but the 1850 census would indicate that no children were yet born to George and Caroline; the date in the Webster genealogy is used here. ²

     John Zenas Holcombe was born on 15 January 1859 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 He was the son of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹

     Elizabeth Jane Holcombe was born on 1 March 1861 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹

     Ida Lorena Holcombe was born on 21 September 1863 at Monmouth, Warren Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster.¹ Ida Lorena Holcombe died on 30 December 1868 at age 5.³

     Clark Lamphere was born on 7 August 1848.¹ He married Pamela Thomas Holcombe, daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster, on 27 August 1874.¹

     Frank Lamphere was born on 3 June 1876.¹ He was the son of Clark Lamphere and Pamela Thomas Holcombe.¹

     James Henry Cummings was born on 21 May 1846 at Lewistown, Fulton Co., IL.¹ He married Cordelia Parnell Holcombe, daughter of George Washington Holcombe and Caroline Susan Webster, on 17 April 1873.¹ James Henry Cummings died on 25 April 1931 at Burlington, WA, at age 84.¹

     Mary Alderman was the daughter of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Mary Alderman died in 1825.¹

     Zardius Alderman was born in 1794.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹

Zardius moved to Manlius, NY.²

He was enumerated, alone, in the 1850 DeWitt, Onondaga Co. NY, federal census, aged 57.

     Julia Alderman was born in 1796.¹ She was the daughter of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹

     Bucklin Alderman was born on 28 August 1799.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Bucklin Alderman died on 27 May 1838 at age 38.¹

Bucklin went to Michigan.²

     Anson Alderman was born in 1802.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Anson Alderman died in 1803.¹

     Anson Alderman was born in 1804.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Anson Alderman died in 1809.¹

     Amalina Alderman was born in 1808.¹ She was the daughter of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹

     Almira E. Alderman was born in 1811.¹ She was the daughter of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Almira E. Alderman died in 1872.¹

     William Alderman was born in 1813.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ William Alderman died in 1849.¹

William went to California during the gold rush and perhaps died on the way as he was buried at sea.²

William T. Alderman and wife Maria were enumerated in the 1850 Jackson, Jackson Co., MI, federal census, dwelling 176, family 181. He was not working, age 38, born in NY; she was 37, also born in NY. Children in the household were Georgiana 13 born in NY, Josephine 7 born in MI, and Lucius 10 born in MI.

     Elisha Alderman was born in 1813.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹

     Lucius E. Alderman was born in 1817.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹ Lucius E. Alderman died in 1857.¹

     Oliver P. Alderman was born on 28 August 1819.¹ He was the son of Lott Alderman and Mary Griswold.¹

     Horace Alderman was born on 28 April 1829 at Manlius, Onandango Co., NY.¹ He was the son of Zardius Alderman and Hannah Daureth.¹ Horace Alderman married Susan Mustill on 20 February 1857.¹ Horace Alderman died on 17 July 1909 at Murray Township, NY, at age 80.¹

Horace settled at Albion, in Orleans County in 1849, where he engaged in boating on the Erie Canal until 1863, at which time he purchased a farm in Murray Township, where he resided until death.²

     Susan Mustill was born on 27 May 1839.¹ She married Horace Alderman, son of Zardius Alderman and Hannah Daureth, on 20 February 1857.¹ Susan Mustill died on 12 July 1884 at age 45.¹

     Charles Chester Alderman was born on 23 December 1860 at Albion, Orleans Co., NY.¹ He was the son of Horace Alderman and Susan Mustill.¹ Charles Chester Alderman married Elvira Ann Root, daughter of William Root, on 8 November 1882.¹ Charles Chester Alderman died on 1 February 1910 at Albion, Orleans Co., NY, at age 49.¹

Charles spent his entire life and was buried in Albion. By occupation he was a farmer. He became owner of his father's farm on which he was born. He lived a quiet uneventful life and was fairly prosperous. He was deeply interested in civic affairs but never sought public office. He developed a keen interest in natural science and through personal observation and study became well informed regarding the native birds and animals of his region. His principal recreation was derived from these studies and from small game hunting, a sport to which he was ardently attached.²

     Elvira Ann Root was born on 20 August 1859.¹ She was the daughter of William Root.¹ Elvira Ann Root married Charles Chester Alderman, son of Horace Alderman and Susan Mustill, on 8 November 1882.¹

     William Horace Alderman was born on 6 April 1885 at Albion, Orleans Co., NY.¹ He was the son of Charles Chester Alderman and Elvira Ann Root.¹ William Horace Alderman married Margaret Chamberlayne, daughter of Rev. D. O. Chamberlayne and Nettie Baldwin, on 23 September 1908.¹

Dr. Alderman graduated from Cornell University, took a special course at Yale and later became Chief of the Department of Horticulture, University of Minnesota.

Without dates or other definite information it is difficult to properly connect the above with the foregoing families, but the similarity of names leaves little doubt in our minds that they were intended for the same. In the Composium of American Genealogy, Vol. V, page 272, we find that one Milo Alderman was born in 1801 at Colebrook in Litchfield County, Conn., and in 1821, the family, which consisted of the parents and six sons, moved to Prattstown, now Prattsburgh, in Steuben County, N.Y., and that Milo died in 1885. In 1824 he married Polly Sprague Howe of Prattsburgh. We feel confident that this Milo was a brother of Zardius, both of whom were baptized in East Granby, Conn., in 1803.²

     Margaret Chamberlayne was born on 24 April 1884.² She was the daughter of Rev. D. O. Chamberlayne and Nettie Baldwin.³ Margaret Chamberlayne married William Horace Alderman, son of Charles Chester Alderman and Elvira Ann Root, on 23 September 1908.¹ Margaret Chamberlayne died on 15 October 1939 at age 55.²
