     John Newton Popenoe was born on 12 November 1833.¹ He was the son of James Popenoe and Sarah Holcombe.¹ John Newton Popenoe died on 4 October 1856 at KS at age 22.^1,2 He was buried at Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Centerville, Montgomery Co., OH.²

John went to Kansas to take part in the border wars preceding the admission of the state as free soil, and was killed there. ¹

     (?) Forbes married Darius Holcombe, son of Phineas Holcombe and Sarah Tuller.¹

     Benjamin Holcombe was born on 30 July 1800 at Vergennes, Addison Co., VT.^1,2 He was the son of Darius Holcombe and (?) Forbes.¹ Benjamin Holcombe married Louise Lamphere.² Benjamin Holcombe married Joanna Eggman.² Benjamin Holcombe died on 5 August 1839 at Peoria Co., IL, at age 39.²

     Charles Henry Popenoe was born on 2 May 1838 at Centerville, Montgomery Co., OH.¹ He was the son of James Popenoe and Sarah Holcombe.¹ Charles Henry Popenoe died circa 1912 at Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA.¹ He was buried at Altadena, Los Angeles Co., CA.¹

Charles was a farmer in Flora, IL, later living in Altadena, CA. After the death of Edith Lawrence he married a widow with some children. This was not happy and they separated shortly. During the Civil War he was a zouave, serving in Co. G, 54th Ohio Infantry. He had no children but brought up John Walter Popenoe. ¹
