GRANVILLE – George R. Holcomb, Jr. passed away at Glens Falls Hospital on Monday, October 25, 2021, after declining health.

George was born on March 3, 1943, in Hudson Falls, NY the son of George and Jennie (Brown) Holcomb, Sr.

George was employed at Encore Paper Mill for 42 years working in many different positions for the company. He retired in 2003.

He spent his spare time in his younger years competing in truck pull competitions throughout the area, with many wins to his credit.

George was also an avid hunter and fisherman and pursued those past times with family and friends. Another favorite was his "landscaping" with his much-loved tractor.

In the last few years of his life, as breathing issues slowed him down, he loved driving around the countryside stopping to visit family and friends.

George was predeceased by his parents, a sister Alta Ward, a grandson Douglas Holcomb, and his beloved wife of 55 years, Ann Holcomb. Surviving are his children: Peter Holcomb, Sr. (Wanda) of Fort Ann, Cindy Hayes (Daniel) of Granville, and Jodi Preston of Salem. He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Matt Sargent (Brittanie), Peter Holcomb, Jr., Jenna Holcomb, Matt Green, Lynn Skelton, Andrew Ferguson, Mackenzie Ferguson, Katheryn Ferguson, and Damon Ferguson. His blessings extended to many great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. George is also survived by his siblings: Lucy Novinger of CA, Richard Holcomb (Sandy) of Hartford, NY, and Jeff Holcomb (Judy) of Poultney, VT.

The family wishes to recognize and thank Jim Huntington, the best friend a man could have. He spent countless hours listening to George's stories and always was ready to lend a helping hand. In addition, thanks are also extended to Mettowee Valley Family Health and Dr. Alya Carr as well as the entire caring staff, and the nursing staff from Fort Hudson Visiting Nurses.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department or the Granville Rescue Squad.

A funeral will be held on November 13, 2021, at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville at 2:00 PM. Friends may call from Noon until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest with Ann at the Morningside Cemetery in Hartford. NY.

Ann M. Holcomb, age 72, wishes to announce that on Dec. 11, 2016 "I kicked the bucket and I kicked it hard" following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Ann was born on Feb. 22, 1944 in Whitehall, the daughter of the late Sumner and Marjorie (Aikens) Rathbun.

Ann was retired from Sherwood (Tyco) in Argyle where she was employed as an extrusion operator.

She was predeceased by a grandson Douglas Holcomb. Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years, George R. Holcomb, Jr. and their children: Peter Holcomb and his wife Wanda of Fort Ann, Cindy Hayes and her husband Dan of Granville and Jodi Holcomb of Salem. She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Peter, Matt, Jenna, Andrew, Mackenzie, Kathryn, Damon, Matt and Lynn and 7 great grandchildren: Douglas, Dayton, Ashton, Justin, Aubrey, Saydie and Naydine. She is survived by a sister Judy Holcomb and her husband Jeff of Poultney. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Jennie Holcomb and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Douglas William Holcomb Sr. died on Friday, March 6, 2009, at his residence from complications sustained in an accident three years ago.

Douglas was born on May 31, 1984, the son of Pete Holcomb and Sandra (Bickford) Dewey.

Prior to his accident, Douglas had been employed at numerous slate quarries as well as Manchester Wood. Douglas' greatest joy was spending time with his son playing with his enormous car collection or watching their favorite television shows together. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and never-ending pranks that he would pull on people, especially his grandparents, whom he lived with and loved with all his heart. Douglas enjoyed fishing with this brothers, father and grandfather. A favorite summer pastime was going to every yard sale he could get to. He also enjoyed his weekly outings to the movies and shopping with his aunt Cindy. However, the most precious moments of his life were those spent with his grandmother. They had a bond that surpassed all others. He will be remembered for "doing it the hard way." Gone but not forgotten.

Douglas was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Fay Bickford.

Survivors are his son, Douglas William Holcomb Jr; his father, Peter Holcomb Sr. and stepmother, Wanda, of Fort Ann; his mother, Sandra Dewey of East Hartford, N.Y; his stepfather, Mike Dewey and his companion, Stacey, of North Argyle; his paternal grandparents, George and Ann Holcomb of South Granville; and his paternal great- grandmother, Jennie Holcomb of Granville; brothers: Peter Holcomb and his wife, Heather, of Hebron, Matt Sargent and his companion, Kendra, of West Granville, and Michael Dewey; sisters, Delta Dewey and Jenna Holcomb of Fort Ann and a stepsister, Lynn Skelton of Granville; and a stepbrother, Matt Greene of Fort Ann. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews: Saydi and Naydine Sargent of Hebron, Boston White of West Granville, Dayton and Ashton Holcomb of Hebron and Brooklyn, Trista and Kerra Skeleton of Granville. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles. Also surviving is the mother of his son, Jessica Freeguard. The family extends a special thanks to her for her care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, with the Rev. Robert Flower officiating. Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary Holcomb, 64, a retired tax specialist of Las Vegas, passed away October 1, 2011. Gary was born September 12, 1947 in Rochester, N.Y. He graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester in 1965, and went on to complete a bachelor of arts in sociology and economics from Boston College in 1969. Gary retired from General Electric in 2007 after almost 40 years of dedicated service. He was a long-time resident of the New York Capital Region, and recently moved to Las Vegas. Gary was an avid sports fan, and during his time in Las Vegas, worked part-time for the Las Vegas 51's baseball team. Gary also enjoyed listening to music and going to concerts. Gary was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Holcomb; and father, Clinton Holcomb. He is survived by his son, Michael (Nicole) Holcomb; granddaughter, Sophie Holcomb, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Memorial service to be held October 22 at 2 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society .

WALLINGFORD - Russell L. Griswold, Sr., 82, beloved husband for 60 years, of Jean (Rosa) Griswold, of Putter Drive, Wallingford, died Sunday, December 26, 2004, from complications due to pulmonary fibrosis, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in New Haven, April 6, 1922, a son of the late Charles R. and Gladys (Marsh) Griswold, he had been a Wallingford resident for 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II, and had been employed as an Inspector for the New Haven Water Company for over 40 years, until his retirement. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.

Besides his wife, Jean, he is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Roberta and David Denya of East Haddam and Jennifer Griswold of Meriden; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Julie Griswold of Tolland and David Griswold of Meriden; his five grandchildren, Steven Griswold, Robin Raines, Emma Jean Griswold, and Matthew and Michael Giangreco; his two great-grandsons, Charles Raines and David Griswold; his sister, Gladys McWeeney of West Palm Beach, Fla; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Russell L. Griswold Jr.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 9 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment (with military honors) will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.      Russell Lanfair Griswold Jr. was born on 6 May 1945 at Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. He was the son of Russell Lanfair Griswold and Jean Elizabeth Rosa. Russell Lanfair Griswold Jr. died on 19 October 1998 at Fremont, Steuben Co., IN, at age 53. He was buried at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, Marion Co., FL.1

Russell L. Griswold Jr., 53, of Ocala, Fla., died Oct. 19, 1998, in Fremont, Ind.

He was born May 6, 1945, in Springfield, Mass. He was a resident of North Haven, Conn., and later Wallingford, all of his life until moving to Florida in 1978. He was employed by Service Trucking in Eustis, Fla., as a long-distance driver.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Griswold of Ocala; his parents, Russell L. and Jean Rosa Griswold of Wallingford; a daughter, Robin Raines of New Port Richey, Fla; a son, U.S. Navy CPO Steven Griswold, stationed in Cairo, Egypt; a grandson, Charles Russell Raines of Florida; two sisters, Roberta Denya of Wallingford and Jennifer Griswold of Meriden; two brothers, Scott Griswold of Vernon and David Griswold of Meriden; six stepchildren, Debra Petronovich of San Diego, Calif., Tamela Schaetzl, Tracy Thomas, and Leonard Shriner, all of Ocala, Timothy Thomas, of Coconut Creek, Fla., Terri Williams of West Palm Beach, Fla; and their children.

Funeral services were held in Ocala on Oct. 24 at the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Sheedy officiating. Interment was in Highland Memorial Park in Ocala.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford, Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.

     Louis Henry Holcombe was born on 10 August 1928 at Bennington, Bennington Co., VT.1 He was the son of Gilbert Henry Holcombe and Evylene Louise Langlois. Louis Henry Holcombe married Rose Marie Hunt on 19 September 1947 at Weston, Windsor Co., VT. Louis Henry Holcombe died on 29 January 2016 at Troy, Rensselaer Co., NY, at age 87. He was buried at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge, Washington Co., NY.2

Louis "Boo" Holcomb, 87, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2016, in the hospice unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy.

He was born Aug. 10, 1928 in Bennington, Vermont, the son of the late Gilbert and Evylene (Langlois) Holcomb. He married Rose Hunt in 1947 and they settled in Cambridge.

Louis worked for Cambridge Central School as a bus driver and then as head mechanic in the bus garage until his retirement in 1989. He drove the BOCES bus for many years and will be remembered by students as the driver who had a radio in his bus.

He enjoyed going to football games and for years filmed the Cambridge Tigers and Cubs' Pee Wee Football games. Louis was an avid New York Yankees fan and was also a fan of the NFL team that was in first place at the time.

In addition to his wife, Louis is survived by his sons, Roger (Karel), John (Coleen) and Andrew (Margaret); he was the Bampi to 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Levi and Edward Holcomb, and sisters, Bonnie Sue Holcomb and Barbara Wright.

Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the

Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.

Interment will be at a later date at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.

     Rose Marie Hunt was born on 18 July 1930 at Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., MA. She married Louis Henry Holcombe, son of Gilbert Henry Holcombe and Evylene Louise Langlois, on 19 September 1947 at Weston, Windsor Co., VT. Rose Marie Hunt died on 30 April 2022 at Albany Medical Center, Albany Twp., Bradford Co., PA, at age 91.

CAMBRIDGE - Rose Marie Holcomb, 91, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Albany Medical Center.

Born July 18, 1930 in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Earle and Lillian (Hassan) Hunt. Rose worked at Reis Mills in Cambridge and also at the Asgrow Seed Company in Cambridge. She retired from the Bentley Seed Company in Cambridge.

Rose was a diehard New York Yankees fan, loved watching the Cambridge Pee Wee Football Games, enjoyed camping, loved playing bingo, dominoes and working on puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Louis "Boo" Holcomb who passed away January 29, 2016, her siblings, Robert Hunt, Bette Gillett, Barbara Hunt, Helen Davis and James Hunt.

Rose is survived by her children: Roger Holcomb (Karel) of Cambridge, John Holcomb (Coleen) of Cambridge and Andrew Holcomb (Margaret) of Troy; she is also survived by her grandchildren: Jillyn Holcomb (Thomas Kehoe), James Brandalik, Bianca Bates (Mat), Paige Evans (Shane), John Holcomb, Jr., Jennifer Pohl (Jason), Joseph Holcomb (CJ Jacobs), Benjamin Holcomb (Brittany), Joshua Holcomb (Katie Klebbe), Jessica Ryder (Tom) and Brenden Holcomb; many great grandchildren; a beloved nephew, Tony Ercole (Lisa) of Newbury, NH.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

Alice Elizabeth Tomkievich

b. 11 December 1930, d. 9 March 2000
     Alice Elizabeth Tomkievich was born on 11 December 1930. On circa 1940 her name was legally changed to Alice Elizabeth King. She married Donald Spencer Barber M.D., son of Kenneth Warham Barber and Edith Cushing Spencer, on 12 June 1952. Alice Elizabeth Tomkievich and an unknown person were divorced on 29 September 1979 at Lamoille Co., VT. She died on 9 March 2000 at Barre, VT, at age 69.

After the accidental deaths of her parents when she was ten, Alice was adopted by her grandparents, Victgor and Louisa (Hopewell) King.

     Edythe Shirley Wright was born on 27 June 1924 at Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. She married Kenneth Edgett Case, son of Chester Arthur Case and Lottie Jemima Edgett, on 2 February 1947. Edythe Shirley Wright died on 12 September 2022 at Avery Heights, Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 98.

Edythe Shirley (Wright) Case, 98, of Hartford, wife of the late Kenneth E Case, passed away peacefully Monday, September 12, 2022 at Avery Heights in Hartford CT.

She was born June 27, 1924 in Dunnville, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Rev. Horace Clutton Wright and Lyla Mary Elizabeth (Webber) Wright. The family moved to USA when she was four years old. She graduated from Highland Park (NJ) High School. She and Ken were married for 74 years and they were long-time residents of the Secret Lake community in Avon where they lived for 65 years before moving to Avery Heights in Hartford in 2017.

She worked at various jobs including Myrtle Mills and Allstate Insurance and retired from Avon Middle School. She and Ken took many trips all over North America in their motorhome visiting her relatives and rockhounding. She enjoyed time with her large family - sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and USA. Edythe was a member of Canton Community Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for forty years and served as deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer.

She is survived by her children, Nancy C. Mackie, Russell W. Case and wife Sandi, and Jonathan E. Case and wife Susan; her grandchildren, Carolyn M. O'Connor, Emery K. McClinton, Mary Elizabeth Mackie, Ashley Case Wickline, Todd Stewart, Jason Zukowski, Juliet Sullivan, Melaney Case, Brooke Landry, Bryan Hawes and Tina Kilman; fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons. In addition to her parents and husband, Edythe was predeceased by her sisters Betty, Margaret, and Jeanne. The Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, October 15, 11:00 am at the Canton Community Baptist Church, 125 Dowd Ave, Canton, CT.
