     Silas Spencer was born in 1746. He married Sarah Griswold, daughter of White Griswold and Elizabeth Cheeny, in 1772. Silas Spencer died in 1834.

     Artemisa Spencer was the daughter of Silas Spencer and Sarah Griswold. DAR record 76175. Artemisa Spencer married William Sumner in 1805.

     William Sumner was born in 1782. He married Artemisa Spencer, daughter of Silas Spencer and Sarah Griswold, in 1805. William Sumner died in 1851.

     DAR record 76175. William S. Sumner was born in 1809. He was the son of William Sumner and Artemisa Spencer. William S. Sumner married Katherine George in 1836. William S. Sumner died in 1900.

     Katherine George was born in 1812. She married William S. Sumner, son of William Sumner and Artemisa Spencer, in 1836. Katherine George died in 1883.

     John F. Williams was born in 1824. He married Charlotte Jane Griswold, daughter of Edward Griswold and Laura Hubbard, in 1860. John F. Williams died in 1887.

     Mary Williams was born at Manchester, Hartford Co., CT.

     DAR record 18244. Rosanna Pettibone married Ezekiel Wilcox. Rosanna Pettibone was born in 1739. She was the daughter of Jonathan Pettibone and Martha Humphrey. Rosanna Pettibone died in 1813.

     DAR record 18244. Col. Noah Amherst Phelps was born on 3 May 1762 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Maj. Gen. Noah Phelps and Lydia Griswold.² Col. Noah Amherst Phelps married Charlotte Wilcox, daughter of Ezekiel Wilcox and Rosanna Pettibone, in 1784.

     Charlotte Wilcox was born in 1766. She was the daughter of Ezekiel Wilcox and Rosanna Pettibone. Charlotte Wilcox married Col. Noah Amherst Phelps, son of Maj. Gen. Noah Phelps and Lydia Griswold, in 1784. Charlotte Wilcox died in 1831.

     Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps was born on 1 February 1791 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Col. Noah Amherst Phelps and Charlotte Wilcox. Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps married Pollina Salome Barnard, daughter of Ebenezer Barnard and Mary Pinney, on 26 December 1816. Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps married Lydia Harreitte Humphrey, daughter of Col. Jonathan Humphrey and Lydia Griswold Phelps, on 7 January 1829. Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps died on 21 March 1879 at age 88.

     Pollina Salome Barnard was born on 5 June 1789 at St. Andrews Parish, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Ebenezer Barnard and Mary Pinney. Pollina Salome Barnard married Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps, son of Col. Noah Amherst Phelps and Charlotte Wilcox, on 26 December 1816. Pollina Salome Barnard died on 6 April 1828 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 38.

     DAR member 18244. Mary Phelps was born on 15 October 1822 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Hon. Jeffery Orson Phelps and Pollina Salome Barnard.

     DAR record 34035. Hector Fayette Phelps was born on 26 July 1797. He was the son of Col. Noah Amherst Phelps and Charlotte Wilcox.

     John Wesley Phelps was the son of Hector Fayette Phelps and Roxanna Selina Barnard. DAR record 34035.

     Nathalie Phelps was born at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. DAR member 34035. She was the daughter of John Wesley Phelps and Mary Buckley.

     Margaret Stevens Phelps was born at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. DAR member 36096. She was the daughter of John Wesley Phelps and Mary Buckley.

     Hon. Elisha Phelps was born on 16 November 1779 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Maj. Gen. Noah Phelps and Lydia Griswold. Hon. Elisha Phelps married Lucy Smith on 16 April 1810. Hon. Elisha Phelps died on 6 April 1847 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 67.

     Lucy Smith was born on 10 December 1791. She married Hon. Elisha Phelps, son of Maj. Gen. Noah Phelps and Lydia Griswold, on 16 April 1810. Lucy Smith died on 20 April 1847 at age 55.¹

     Col. John Elisha Phelps married Margaret Jane White. Col. John Elisha Phelps was born on 22 December 1814 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of John Smith Phelps and Mary Whitney. Col. John Elisha Phelps died on 20 November 1886 at St. Louis, St. Louis Co., MO, at age 71. DAR record 43064.

     Margaret Jane White married Col. John Elisha Phelps, son of John Smith Phelps and Mary Whitney.

     Edith Allen Phelps was born at Springfield, Greene Co., MO. DAR member 43064. She was the daughter of Col. John Elisha Phelps and Margaret Jane White.

     DAR record 47513. Julius Johnson Griswold was born on 19 December 1800.¹ He was the son of George Griswold and Esther Johnson.

     Rufus White Griswold MD was born on 20 February 1825 at East Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.² He was the son of Julius Johnson Griswold and Ann Arnold. Rufus White Griswold MD married Esther Eliza Hammond. Rufus White Griswold MD died on 17 August 1902 at Rocky Hill, CT, at age 77.²

"Doctor Rufus White Griswold was born in East Hartford, Connecticut, February 20, 1825, and died at Rocky Hill, August 17, 1902.

"He was educated in the common schools, and at the age fo seventeen entered the office of the Hartford Times as an apprentice, remaining there for six years. He then for two years published and edited The New England Gazette. He was afterwards engaged in the newspaper work in New York, at one time on the editorial staff of The Brooklyn Eagle. He began the study of medicine in 1850, and while following his studies found time to edit the Golden Dollar and the Empire City, and to contribute to the Brooklyn Morning Journal. He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in March, 1854, when he returned to Connecticut and settled at Rocky Hill, where he continued an uninterrupted practice for forty-eight years, during the whole of which time he had been an active and prominent member of the Connecticut Medical Society. He held the offices of town clerk and acting school visitor for several years, and in 1883 represented his town in the legislature, where he was chairman of a committee on contingent expenses.

"In politics he was a republican, and while not a member of any church was a cordial supporter of the Congregational Ecclesiastical Society and was always interested in everything pertaining to its welfare, being for several years its treasurer. His tastes were literary, being more fond of books and historical research than promiscuous society. As a writer he was analytical, a thorough master of his subject, sharp and sometimes caustic in his criticism of what he believed to be medical fallacies.

"He was one of the organizers of this Society, having been admitted at the first meeting, held April 198, 1889, being number 46 on the roll of membership. He served for many years on the board of managers, of which he was a constant attendant, taking an active part in its discussions and projects. He was admitted to membership as a descendant of White Griswold of Windsor, Connecticut, who was a soldier participating in the invasion of Canada, afterwards with the 8th regiment, at the battle of Germantown, in New Jersey, where he was taken prisoner and died on board a prison ship in Philadelphia in 1777."³
