     William Dewey was born in January 1691 at Northampton, MA. He was the son of Josiah Dewey Jr. and Mehitable Miller. William Dewey married Mercy Saxton, daughter of Joseph Saxton and Hannah Denison, on 2 July 1713. William Dewey died on 10 November 1759 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT, at age 68.

     Mercy Saxton was the daughter of Joseph Saxton and Hannah Denison. Mercy Saxton married William Dewey, son of Josiah Dewey Jr. and Mehitable Miller, on 2 July 1713.

     Josiah Dewey Jr. was born on 24 December 1666 at Northampton, MA. He was the son of Josiah Dewey and Hepzibah Lyman. Josiah Dewey Jr. married Mehitable Miller on 15 January 1690 or 1691 at Westfield, MA. Josiah Dewey Jr. died circa 1750 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT.

     Mehitable Miller was born on 10 July 1666 at Northampton, MA. She married Josiah Dewey Jr., son of Josiah Dewey and Hepzibah Lyman, on 15 January 1690 or 1691 at Westfield, MA.

     Josiah Dewey was born on 10 October 1641 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Thomas Dewey and Frances (?) Josiah Dewey married Hepzibah Lyman, daughter of Richard Lyman Jr. and Hepzibah Ford, on 6 November 1662 at Northampton, MA. Josiah Dewey died on 7 September 1732 at Northampton, MA, at age 90.

     Hepzibah Lyman was born in 1644 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Richard Lyman Jr. and Hepzibah Ford. Hepzibah Lyman married Josiah Dewey, son of Thomas Dewey and Frances (?), on 6 November 1662 at Northampton, MA. Hepzibah Lyman died on 4 June 1732 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT.

     William Dewey was born on 11 January 1745 or 1746 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT. He was the son of Simeon Dewey and Anna Phelps. William Dewey married Rebecca Carrier in 1768. William Dewey died on 10 June 1813 at Hanover, NH.

     Rebecca Carrier was born on 19 March 1746 or 1747. She married William Dewey, son of Simeon Dewey and Anna Phelps, in 1768. Rebecca Carrier died on 6 July 1837.

     Simeon Dewey was born on 20 August 1770 at Hebron, Tolland Co., CT. He was the son of William Dewey and Rebecca Carrier. Simeon Dewey died on 11 January 1863 at Montpelier, VT, at age 92.

     Julius Yemans Dewey was born on 22 August 1801 at Berlin, VT. He was the son of Simeon Dewey and Purdence Yemans. Julius Yemans Dewey married Mary Perrin on 9 June 1825. Julius Yemans Dewey died on 29 May 1877 at Montpelier, VT, at age 75.

     Mary Perrin was born on 30 January 1799 at Berlin, VT. She married Julius Yemans Dewey, son of Simeon Dewey and Purdence Yemans, on 9 June 1825. Mary Perrin died on 3 September 1843 at Montpelier, VT, at age 44.

     George Dewey was an American naval officer, who became a hero during the Spanish-American War when the U.S. fleet he commanded destroyed the Spanish fleet at Manila.

Dewey was born on December 26, 1837, in Montpelier, Vermont, and educated at the U.S. Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1858. At the outbreak of the American Civil War, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. In 1862, in command of the sloop Mississippi, Dewey took part in the successful operation led by Admiral David Farragut to capture New Orleans, Louisiana. Dewey was promoted to the rank of commander in 1872, captain in 1884, and commodore in 1896. In November 1897, he was given command of the Asiatic Squadron of the U.S. Navy.

When the United States declared war on Spain on April 25, 1898, Dewey's squadron was in the port of Hong Kong. The following day he was ordered to "capture or destroy the Spanish squadron," then believed to be based in Manila. On May 1, he engaged the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay after giving his famous command to the captain of his flagship: "You may fire when you are ready, Gridley." Dewey forcefully defeated an attempt by German naval vessels in the bay to interfere with his operations; he completely destroyed the Spanish fleet without the loss of a single American and with only eight men wounded . Six days later Dewey was made a rear admiral. On August 13, he aided General Wesley Merritt in capturing Manila. In further recognition of his services, Dewey was promoted (1899) to the special rank of Admiral of the Navy, and Congress passed a special act to enable him to continue in active service past the legal retirement age. He also served as president of the General Board of the U.S. Navy from 1900 until his death in Washington, D.C., on January 16, 1917.

Thomas Ford came to this country in the Mary and John with John Strong, and founded, with the rest of the company, the new Dorchester. He was one of the early settlers of Windsor, CT. He was deputy to the General court in 1637, 1638, 1639 and 1640, and grand juror in 1643. When his first wife died in 1643, he married for a 2d wife, Mrs. Ann Scott, widow of Thomas Scott. He removed to Northampton, and probably at the same time with John Strong in 1659. He exchanged, Dec 10, 1660, his home-lot and lands in Windsor with Edward Elmer, in Northampton.

     Elizabeth Charde married Aaron Cooke on 2 September 1610 at Thorncombe, Dorset, England. Elizabeth Charde married Thomas Ford on 19 June 1616 at Bridprot, Dorset, England. Elizabeth Charde was buried on 18 April 1643 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.

     Thomas Dewey was born on 16 February 1639 or 1640 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Thomas Dewey and Frances (?) Thomas Dewey died on 27 April 1690 at Westfield, MA.
