Originally this Abigail was thought to be the daughter of Hezekiah Griswold. However, Coralee Griswold with the Griswold Family Association notes that new research has corrected this. Abigail is the daughter of Noah and Abigail (Griswold) Griswold. She references a NEHGR article by Helen S. Ullmannm, Oct 1995, vol 596; p. 390-394. Helen, of course, also wrote the Mills Genealogy.

Ezekiel Ashley

With his borthers Daniel and Aaron, Ezekiel was one of the first proprietors of Sheffield, Ma., and probably moved his family there about 1728. He and John Pell surveyed and located the "old ore hill" in Salisbury, Ct., a tract of 100 acres granted in Oct. 1731 and May 1734.
He, his uncle, Capt. John Ashley and others petitioned for a grant of 100 acres of land lying west of the Housatonic river near a large pond known to the Indians by the name of Wonokopoko Pond. he also had an interest in the forge, iron works and water privileges in Sheffield. He styled himself "husbandman" and "gentleman" in deeds. He took a prominent part in the management of town affairs, being chosen moderator in 1734/5, 1736, '37, and '38.
Ezekiel was also interested in military matters, serving in the local companies. After returning to Hartford he volunteered his services to Connecticut in the Cape Breton expedition and was appointed lieutenant in Capt Adonijah Fitch's company, his commission dated may 30, 1745.
