     Friend Case was born on 10 November 1781 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Capt. Job Case and Joanna Wilcox. Friend Case married Sarah Case, daughter of Jedediah Case Jr. and Lettice Tuller, on 6 January 1802 or 1803 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Friend Case died on 22 June 1840 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 58.

     Sarah Case was born on 20 March 1783 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Jedediah Case Jr. and Lettice Tuller. Sarah Case married Friend Case, son of Capt. Job Case and Joanna Wilcox, on 6 January 1802 or 1803 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Sarah Case died on 10 May 1839 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 56.

     Jedediah Case Jr. was born on 13 July 1759 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Jedediah Case and Mercy Hart. Jedediah Case Jr. married Lettice Tuller, daughter of Elijah Tuller and Sarah Case, on 28 November 1782 at Simsbury First Church, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Jedediah Case Jr. married Rosanna Case, daughter of Moses Case and Lucy Wilcox, on 10 September 1816 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.³ Jedediah Case Jr. died on 29 April 1828 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 68.

     Lettice Tuller was born on 22 December 1765 at West Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Elijah Tuller and Sarah Case. Lettice Tuller married Jedediah Case Jr., son of Jedediah Case and Mercy Hart, on 28 November 1782 at Simsbury First Church, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Lettice Tuller died on 5 May 1815 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 49.

     Grace Elizabeth Holcombe was born on 7 November 1877 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Gavette Burt Holcombe and Ellen Marie Humphrey. Grace Elizabeth Holcombe was a member in 1897 at DAR; 18242, Washington, DC. She married Dr. Arnold Eberg on 11 April 1912 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.³ Grace Elizabeth Holcombe married Lucius E. Humphrey on 21 October 1920.⁴ Grace Elizabeth Holcombe died on 17 May 1954 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 76.⁵ She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.⁶

Grace lived in East Weatogue; graduated from McLean's Seminary at age 16. She attended the Paris Exposition in 1900 and taught school in simsbury. She had no children. Her body was cremated and her ashes were placed in the cemetery behind the Avon Congregational Church on Route 44.

     Nancy C. Holcombe was born in 1855 at Paris, Edgar Co., IL. She was the daughter of Burt Holcombe and Lucinda Ashmore. Nancy C. Holcombe married Benajah Edmund Holcombe, son of Edmund Buell Hull Holcombe and Harriet Elizabeth Gavette, on 11 August 1875 at Paris, Clark Co., IL. Nancy C. Holcombe died in 1895 at Valley Center, CA.

     Clara Holcombe was born on 16 November 1877 at Bear Valley, San Diego Co., CA. She was the daughter of Benajah Edmund Holcombe and Nancy C. Holcombe.

     Bertha Holcombe was born on 21 March 1879 at Bear Valley, San Diego Co., CA. She was the daughter of Benajah Edmund Holcombe and Nancy C. Holcombe.

"Hary" F. and Elnora were enumerated in the 1930 Braintree, Norfolk Co., MA, federal census. He was an agency manager, age 53, she was 47. Children in the household were "Hary" F. Jr. 23, Mary E. 17, and Eleanor 6.

     Ethel Mary Holcombe was born on 19 December 1885 at Weatogue, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Joseph Wells Holcombe and Mary Ellen Lowrey.³ Ethel Mary Holcombe was a member in 1914 at DAR; 109985., Washington, DC. She married Clarence Finley Strong, son of William Strong and Ella L. Stoddard, on 10 March 1915.⁴ Ethel Mary Holcombe died on 30 July 1940 at age 54. She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.⁵

     Edmund Alfred Holcombe was born on 31 May 1888 at 68 Hartford Ave; East Weatogue, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.^2,3 He was the son of Joseph Wells Holcombe and Mary Ellen Lowrey.⁴ Edmund Alfred Holcombe married Florence Sara Gates, daughter of Frank Gates and Isabelle Ward, on 16 April 1913 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. Edmund Alfred Holcombe died on 23 May 1977 at East Weatogue, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 88. He was buried at Center Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

In addition to operating the farm, he was a selectman and Chairman of the Board of Education, Simsbury; inspector for the State Dairy and Food Commission. Florence graduated from the New Britain Normal School and taught in the Simsbury school district and was a past matron of Hesper Chapter OES, a charter member of the grange and member of Abigail Phelps chapter, DAR. They lived at 68 Hartford Avenue, Simsbury in the house in which he was born and died.

     Theona Lowrey Holcombe was born on 6 June 1890 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.⁴ She was the daughter of Joseph Wells Holcombe and Mary Ellen Lowrey.⁴ Theona Lowrey Holcombe was a member in 1914 at DAR; 109986, Washington, DC. She married Oliver Dibble Tuller on 15 September 1915.⁴ Theona Lowrey Holcombe died on 17 March 1990 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 99.⁴

Oliver and Theona were recorded in the 1920 Census of Simsbury, CT. The Deaths, Marriages, Briths, Anniversaries, Engagements copied from Hester Zeidler's Scrapbooks at the Simsbury Genealogical Research Library, by Ruth Cost Duncan, indicates that at the time of Olive's death (1973) both sons Oliver and Robert were living in West Simsbury, but does not mention either daughter.

     Jennie Mary Herrick was born on 10 September 1864 at Blandford, MA. She was the daughter of Henry Knox Herrick and Sarah Elizabeth Parks. Jennie Mary Herrick married Walter Burnside Holcombe, son of Edmund Buell Hull Holcombe and Angeline Sophia Oatley, on 13 December 1883 at Blandford, MA. Jennie Mary Herrick died on 14 February 1945 at age 80. She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.²

     Henry Knox Herrick was the son of Thomas Herrick and Mary Ann Knox. Henry Knox Herrick married Sarah Elizabeth Parks.

     Ruth Angeline Holcombe was born on 23 October 1884 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Walter Burnside Holcombe and Jennie Mary Herrick. Ruth Angeline Holcombe married Wilbur Forshay Stocking, son of William Alonzo Stocking and Serinda Delanoy, on 1 June 1905 or 21 1905 at Caldwell, WI.

     Ralph Herrick Holcombe was born on 20 May 1889 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.² He was the son of Walter Burnside Holcombe and Jennie Mary Herrick. Ralph Herrick Holcombe married Mabel Eliza Brockett, daughter of David L. Brockett and Mary Russell, on 17 October 1910 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT. Ralph Herrick Holcombe married Anna Carlson Seman on 25 October 1923 at Fairfield, CT. Ralph Herrick Holcombe died on 11 February 1965 at Newtown, CT, at age 75.³ He was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.⁴

Ralph ran a coal and grain store, which he turned into a coal and oil business in Newtown, Connecticut.

Ralph and Mable were enumerated in the 1920 Fairfield, Fairfield, Co., CT, federal census, ED 494, page 6B. He was a farmer, age 30, she was 29. Children in the household were Walter 3, and Eleanor 1. Ralph H. and Anna M. were enumerated in the 1940 Newtown, Fairfield Co., CT, federal census. He was the manager of a retail oil business, age 50, she was 48. Children in the household were Walter B., 23, and Eleanor M. 21.

Henry Lewis Holcombe married Laura Phoebe Perkins, daughter of James Ethelbert Perkins and Addie Sophia Easton, on 24 June 1914 at Warehouse Point, CT.³ Henry Lewis Holcombe died on 26 April 1962 at East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 71. He was buried at Springdale Cemetery, East Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.⁴

Henry Lewis Holcombe bought a blacksmith shop, turned it into an automotive shop, which at the time was the only one on the east side of the Connecticut River from East Hartford to Springfield, Massachusetts. The family lived at 188 Main Street, East Windsor, Connecticut.

     Harry Parks Holcombe was born on 9 January 1893 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.^2,3 He was the son of Walter Burnside Holcombe and Jennie Mary Herrick. Harry Parks Holcombe was also known as H. Parks Holcombe. He married Minnie Cristina Messenger, daughter of Scott Wesley Messenger and Sarah Jane Teeter, on 8 July 1912. Harry Parks Holcombe died on 6 March 1976 at Marlboro, VT, at age 83. He was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Hartford, Litchfield Co., CT.⁴

     Dr. Arnold Eberg was born on 25 December 1858 at Easthampton, MA.¹ He married Grace Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of Gavette Burt Holcombe and Ellen Marie Humphrey, on 11 April 1912 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Dr. Arnold Eberg died on 16 January 1916 at East Weatogue, Hartford Co., CT, at age 57.¹ He was buried on 18 January 1916 at Center Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

Dr. Arnold Eberg, for thirty-three years a practicing physician in Simsbury, died last evening at his home in East Weatogue after an illness of several weeks from complication of diseases. He was born in Easthampton, Mass., December 15, 1857, the only son of Solomon and Elizabeth (Hiltold) Eberg. He received his early education in the Easthampton schools. He was graduated from Dartmouth College in the class of 1880, and studied medicine in Germany the next four years. He was married to Miss Grace Elizabeth Holcomb, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Holcomb, in April 1912. The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at his home in East Weatogue. Burial will be in the Simsbury Center Cemetery.

     Lucius E. Humphrey married Grace Elizabeth Holcombe, daughter of Gavette Burt Holcombe and Ellen Marie Humphrey, on 21 October 1920.¹ Lucius E. Humphrey died in 1963.

Lucius E. Humphrey is probably Lucius Edwin Humphrey, b. 8 Feb 1882, son of Hon. Ludius Charles Humphrey, page 691 of the Humphrey Genealogy. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Avon, Hartford Co., CT.

     Florence Sara Gates was born on 17 December 1889 at Winsted, Litchfield Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Frank Gates and Isabelle Ward. Florence Sara Gates married Edmund Alfred Holcombe, son of Joseph Wells Holcombe and Mary Ellen Lowrey, on 16 April 1913 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. Florence Sara Gates died on 22 March 1986 at Avon, Hartford Co., CT, at age 96.¹ She was buried at Center Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

     Frank Gates was born in May 1853 at CT.¹ He married Isabelle Ward circa 1886.¹

     Ward Gates Holcombe was born on 23 January 1914 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.² He was the son of Edmund Alfred Holcombe and Florence Sara Gates. Ward Gates Holcombe married Dorothy Louise Shaw, daughter of Arthur R. Shaw and Louise Pecan, on 30 October 1937 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Ward Gates Holcombe died on 20 April 1989 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, at age 75.² He was buried at Center Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.³

He was a supervisor for the Northeast Utilities. She lives at 72 Hartford Avenue, in the East Weatogue section of Simsbury, Connecticut.

Edmund Joseph Holcombe died on 7 January 2001 at Centre Community Hospital, State College, PA, at age 85.² He was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.³

He ran the family farm until 1955 when the flood inundated it all after which he worked for the Town of Simsbury. They lived at 68 Hartford Avenue, East Weatogue section of Simsbury, Connecticut.

Edmund Joseph Holcomb, 85, of State College, PA, formerly of Weatogue, husband of Dagmar (Backman) Holcomb, died Monday, (January 7, 2001) at Centre Community Hospital, State College, PA. He was born November 2, 1915 in Weatogue, son of the late Edmund A. and Florence (Gates) Holcomb.

He was a 1933 graduate of Simsbury High School. Mr. Holcomb was a custodian for the Simsbury School System for ten years retiring in 1984. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a dairy farmer on the family farm until 1955. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Simsbury, a 50-year member of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, a member and past Master of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge #36, A.F. & A.M., a member of the Lee Council #25, R & S.M., the Columbia Chapter #31 R.A.M. both of Collinsville, and a life member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Connecticut. He was also a member and past patron of the Hesper Chapter #71 Order of Eastern Star, Simsbury.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edmund Jay and Brenda Holcomb of Boalsburg, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Eloise J. and Robert Henault of Delhi, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Leland G. and Mary Holcomb of Weatogue; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m. at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, with the Rev. Robert H. Naylor officiating. Burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery.      Leland Gavette Holcombe was born on 2 March 1917 at East Weatogue, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Edmund Alfred Holcombe and Florence Sara Gates. Leland Gavette Holcombe married Mary Hubbard Wolf, daughter of Dr. Frederick Wolf and Wynette (?), on 10 September 1946 at Durham, NC. Leland Gavette Holcombe died on 18 January 2013 at age 95.

He was vice president of Bidwell Hardware in Hartford; Master Sargent, 4th Infantry (finance).

Leland G. Holcomb, 95, of Weatogue, died January 18, 2013. The son of Edmund A. and Florence Gates Holcomb, a lifelong resident of Simsbury, he adored his wife Mary and loved his family, friends, land and golf. Leland was a Mason, member of the First Church of Christ, Simsbury, Geritol Swingers, Codgers, Simsbury Seniors, Simsbury Land Trust, Farmington River Association and an honorary member of Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company. He was predeceased by his wife Mary and leaves two sons Leland Dana and wife Peggy and Warren and wife Eliza along with several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a former Town Treasurer, Treasurer of Fire District, Master Sergeant and Chief of Finance with the 4th Infantry Division.

Mabel Eliza Brockett married Ralph Herrick Holcombe, son of Walter Burnside Holcombe and Jennie Mary Herrick, on 17 October 1910 at Suffield, Hartford Co., CT. Mabel Eliza Brockett died on 9 May 1921 at Fairfield, CT, at age 31. She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Anna Carlson Seman was also known as Anna M. Carlson. She was born on 22 August 1891 at Bridgeport, CT. She married Ralph Herrick Holcombe, son of Walter Burnside Holcombe and Jennie Mary Herrick, on 25 October 1923 at Fairfield, CT. Anna Carlson Seman died on 29 May 1978 at age 86. She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     The following taken from the Connecticut Veterinary Medicine Association bulletin which quoted from the Danbury News-Times of October 22, 1977:

When Dr. Walter B. Holcomb closed the door behind him as he left his office last Tuesday, he closed the door on a bit of local history that stretches back to the turn of the century. Holcomb, 61, sold his beterinary clinic on New Street and retired after 40 years as a veterinarian - 37 of them in the New Street facility started in 1904 by the late Dr. Valentine Knapp. Holcomb retired "because I would just like to: he said. He is a shy, quiet man with large, beefy hands that seem to belong to a laborer or someone not involved with delicate animal surgery. Wehn he joined Knapp in 1938 he became part of one fo the only two veterinary clinics in the area.

Dr. Holcomb and Dr. Knapp ran a "mixed practice" then, large or small animals. In 1940 Dr. Knapp died and Dr. Holcomb became sole owner. He removed the large animal operating table and most of the large animal stalls, adding some more kennel and expanding the building. Today the facility could kennel 70 dogs and cats.

Dr. Holcomb stated, "I haven't the faintest idea" how many animals he has treated in the past 37 years. he sorted throught a desk drawer and came out with a numbered certificate book which showed he spayed more than 12,000 dogs. Walter Holcomb has been a member of the Association since August 1940; president in 1953 and has continued to support the activities of the Association by a near perfect attendance at continuing education programs and quarterly meetings. Eleanor May Holcombe and Francis Burton Hubbell were divorced in 1955. Eleanor May Holcombe died on 13 May 2010 at Vero Beach, Indian River Co., FL, at age 91.² She was buried at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.²

Eleanor Holcomb Hubbell, age 91 of Vero Beach, Fla. and previously of Newtown and Heritage Village, Southbury, died May 13, 2010. She was born in Bridgeport on June 30, 1918, a daughter of the late Ralph H. and Mabel (Brockett) Holcomb. Eleanor was a graduate of the Weylister School in Bridgeport. During her career with the State of Connecticut, she was the business manager for the Bridgeport Correctional Center, purchasing agent for Fairfield County and retired as a manager from the State Comptroller's Office. She was a resident of Newtown from 1928 to 1978 and was the former clerk for the Borough of Newtown, a former corporater of the Newtown Savings Bank and was a member of the Newtown Country Club. Ms. Hubbell was a resident of Heritage Village where she was a member of the Heritage Village Country Club from 1978 to 2000 when she relocated to Florida. She is survived by a niece, Judith Czajka of Vero Beach, Fla. and two great-nieces, Elizabeth Helrich of Cranford, N.J. and Julianne Bovasso of Chalfont, Pa. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Interment in the family plot at Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, will be private. Memorial donations to the American Heart Association at www. AmericanHeart.org will be appreciated.
