PLAINVILLE - Laurie Holcomb, 67, of Plainville passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 ,at her home.
Laurie was born July 30, 1946, in Bristol, a daughter of the late William George and Katherine (Koch) Holcomb and was a longtime Plainville resident. She was employed by the City of Bristol as the Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief, retiring after many years of service. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life and Laurie loved attending their various activities.
She leaves her grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan and Kayleigh Barber, of Berlin and Amanda, Caleb, Janique and Ellie Bulawa, of Arizona; her daughter, Kim Barber and her husband, Todd of Berlin; her sisters, Kathy DiBenedetto and her husband, Tito, of Middletown, Tricia Rice and her husband, Dewey, of Nevada, Mary Vachon, of Rocky Hill and Betty Balthazard and her husband, Roy, of Massachusetts; her sister-in-law, Valerie Holcomb of Plainville; and her son, Tony Bulawa, of Arizona. Laurie was predeceased by her brothers, Plainville Police Officer, Robert Holcomb and William Holcomb.
Funeral services in celebration of Laurie's life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 4 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 355 Camp St., Bristol. Burial will be held privately. A stock broker for Dean Whitter & Co., McKinney had previously spent nine years with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. He had joined the Witter company two years ago and was manager of its Weir Cook Airport office.
A graduate of Campion, a Jesuit school at Prairie du Chien, Wis., McKinney attended Indiana University where he was a member of sigma alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
McKinney was a former member of the 38th Infantry Division, Indiana National Guard.
McKinney formerly had been employed by WISH-TV and the WISH radio station.
He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and its Men's Club.
Other organizations of which he was a member include the Knights of Columbus, Friar's Club, Indianapolis Athletic Club, Columbia Club, Antelope Club and American Businessmen's Club.
McKinney's father, an Indianapolis banker and former Democratic national chairman, was appointed by President Johnson as United States ambassador to Spain this spring, but was unable to assume the position because of illness. His mother is a prominent civic leader and former president of the "500" Festival Associates.
McKinney was married to the former Paulette Kennedy of Martinsville. Other survivors--daughters Paula, Robin; son Guy; sisters Mrs. James C. Clark, Kathleen; brother Frank E. Jr.
Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in Feeney-Kirby Mortuary and at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Church.
