     Anna May Beddow was born circa 1897 at NY.¹ She married Luman Andrus Holcombe, son of George Newton Holcombe and Emma Chloe Dibble, on 12 April 1919 at Southwick, Hampden Co., MA. Anna May Beddow died in 1945.

Anna was a widow when she married Luman.

     Duane Allen Holcombe was born on 5 February 1920 at Westfield, MA.¹ He was the son of Luman Andrus Holcombe and Anna May Beddow. Duane Allen Holcombe married Olive Clark. Duane Allen Holcombe and Olive Clark were divorced. Duane Allen Holcombe died in April 1983 at Fairless Hills, Bucks Co., PA, at age 63.¹

     Almira Sarah Case was born at MA. She married William Holcombe, son of Simeon Holcombe II and Belinda Andrews, on 19 August 1826 at Todd House, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Jane Maria Holcombe was the daughter of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Annette Holcombe was the daughter of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Lucy Holcombe was born at OH.¹ She was the daughter of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case. Lucy Holcombe married Orra Lane circa 1849.²

     Fidelia Holcombe was the daughter of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Laura Holcombe was the daughter of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Albert Holcombe was born circa 1837 at OH.¹ He was the son of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Jefferson Holcombe was born circa 1839 at OH.¹ He was the son of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     West Holcombe was born circa 1842 at OH.¹ He was the son of William Holcombe and Almira Sarah Case.

     Jane Strong witnessed the adoption of Delia Jane Dwight. Jane Strong was born on 5 October 1754. She was the daughter of Rev. Joseph Strong and Jane Gelston. Jane Strong married Reuben Holcombe II, son of Reuben Holcombe and Susanna Hayes, in 1779. Jane Strong witnessed the adoption of Deacon Augustine Holcombe. Jane Strong died on 11 April 1822 at cancer at age 67.²

     Jane Gelston was born on 13 April 1729. She was the daughter of Judge Hugh Gelston and Mary Maltby. Jane Gelston married Rev. Joseph Strong, son of Capt. Joseph Strong Jr. and Elizabeth Strong, on 7 June 1753. Jane Gelston died on 21 September 1811 at age 82.

     Susan Holcombe was born in 1780. She was the daughter of Reuben Holcombe II and Jane Strong. Susan Holcombe died on 10 July 1781.¹

     Polly Gillett was the daughter of Frederick Gillett. Polly Gillett married Seth Holcombe, son of Reuben Holcombe and Susanna Hayes, in 1775.

     Seth Holcombe II was the son of Seth Holcombe and Polly Gillett.

Seth II was appointed Lt. of Ontario Co. militia Feb 19, 1802.

     Mary Holcombe was born in 1807. She was the daughter of Seth Holcombe and Polly Gillett. Mary Holcombe married Uriah Briggs in 1821. Mary Holcombe died in 1884.

     Uriah Briggs was born in 1797. He married Mary Holcombe, daughter of Seth Holcombe and Polly Gillett, in 1821. Uriah Briggs died in 1870.

Uriah and Mary were enumerated in the 1850 Granger, Medina Co., OH, federal census. He was a farmer, age 53, born in NY; she was 42, also born in NY. Children in the household were Elihu 16, Almira 13, James 11, Laura 9, Olive 5, Seth 2, and Nathan, 1 month; all born in OH. Uriah Jr. was living nearby.

     Mary Reed was born on 18 August 1770 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Martin Reed and Mary Moore. Mary Reed married Increase Holcombe, son of Reuben Holcombe and Susanna Hayes, on 2 June 1789.¹ Mary Reed died on 10 February 1848 at age 77.^2,3 She was buried at West Granby Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.²

     Homer Moore Holcombe was born on 1 February 1791 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.^2,3 He was the son of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed. Homer Moore Holcombe died on 17 February 1832 at age 41.^4,3 He was buried at West Granby Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.⁴

Homer served as a private in the War of 1812 from Aug. 18 to Oct 25, 1814 in Isaac Phelps' command.

The military stone in the West Granby cemetery has the wrong age and date. ⁵

     Melissa Holcombe was born on 25 July 1793 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.^3,4 She was the daughter of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed. Melissa Holcombe married Bildad Ensign, son of Isaac Ensign and Lurannah Pettibone, on 22 January 1817.⁴ Melissa Holcombe died on 26 July 1853 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 60.^3,4

     Curtis Holcombe was born on 26 March 1795 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.² He was the son of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed. Curtis Holcombe married Betsey Barton on 1 March 1821.³ Curtis Holcombe died on 15 January 1829 at age 33; scrofula.^4,3 He was buried at West Granby Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.⁴

Curtis served as a private in Isaac Phelps' command in the War of 1812 from Aug 18 to Oct 25, 1814.

     Mayette Holcombe was also known as Maryette Holcombe. She was born on 26 January 1801 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed. Mayette Holcombe married Sylvester Noble, son of Roswell Noble and Susannah Tuller, on 27 June 1821 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT; Increase's bible says the 22nd.¹ Mayette Holcombe married Ebenezer Brown Wetmore on 5 April 1851.¹

     Caroline Holcombe was born on 27 February 1804 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.^1,2 She was the daughter of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed. Caroline Holcombe married Levi Buttles in 1843.¹ Caroline Holcombe died on 14 October 1873 at age 69.²

     Betsey Barton was born on 10 March 1800. She married Curtis Holcombe, son of Increase Holcombe and Mary Reed, on 1 March 1821.¹ Betsey Barton married Harry Holcombe, son of Elihu E. Holcombe and Electa Hillyer, on 9 March 1830 at Methodist Episcopal Church, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.² Betsey Barton died before 2 September 1885.

     Curtis Holcombe II was the son of Curtis Holcombe and Betsey Barton.

     Wayne and Sarah came to Gustavus before 1840, Wayne being dead before 1850 when Sarah is recorded living in the home of their daughter Mary Jane Bidwell Holcombe. Wayne Bidwell married Sarah Cone.

     Sarah Cone was born at CT. She married Wayne Bidwell.

     Webster Holcombe II was born on 13 June 1862 at OH. He was the son of Webster Holcombe and Harriet A. Ducker. Webster Holcombe II married Carrie Harrington, daughter of Norman Harrington and Electa Alexander, on 4 October 1882. Webster Holcombe II died on 5 August 1886 at age 24.

     Carrie Harrington was born on 18 June 1862 at Hoosic Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY. She was the daughter of Norman Harrington and Electa Alexander. Carrie Harrington married Webster Holcombe II, son of Webster Holcombe and Harriet A. Ducker, on 4 October 1882.

     Norman Harrington was born in 1806 at Hoosic Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY.

     Joel Holcombe was born on 3 July 1883 at Hoosic Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY. He was the son of Webster Holcombe II and Carrie Harrington.

     Blanche MacMurray was born circa 1872 at Pennsylvania.¹ She married Nahum Wesley Holcombe, son of Webster Holcombe and Harriet A. Ducker. Blanche MacMurray died in 1940. She was buried at Hayes Cemetery, Hartford, Trumbull Co., OH.²

     McPherson reports that Abigail is the third daughter of Samuel. Abigail Hayes was born on 3 November 1723.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Hayes and Elizabeth Willcockson. Abigail Hayes married Daniel Hayes II, son of Daniel Hayes and Martha Holcombe, on 13 May 1742 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Abigail Hayes died on 11 January 1813 at age 89.¹

     Lucella Amelia Hayes was born on 25 September 1816 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.² Lucella Amelia Hayes married Josiah Harvey Hatch, son of Josiah Hatch and Elizabeth Kellogg, in 1835.¹ Lucella Amelia Hayes died on 15 July 1855 at age 38.¹

     Elmina Fidelia Hayes was born on 11 March 1819 at Village of North Granby, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.² Elmina Fidelia Hayes married Charles Wellington Denslow, son of Almanzor Denslow and Mary Buck, on 31 August 1836 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.^3,4,2,1 Elmina Fidelia Hayes died on 18 December 1850 at East Granby, Hartford Co., CT, at age 31.¹ She was buried at East Granby Cemetery, East Granby, Hartford Co., CT.

Charles was a cashier of the Bank of Mendocina, CA. ⁵


McPherson has Elmira Fidelia Hayes on page 126.2 marrying Charles W. Denslow and Elmina Fidelia Hayes on page 145.2 marrying Charles Wellington Densmore. There is probably some confusion.

Children in the household were Charles A. 22, Mary E. 19, Catharine 7, and Harmon 4. There were servants and other non-family members enumerated in the household.


Charles W. Denslow and wife Mary A. were enumerated in the 1880 Mendocino, Mendocino Co., CA, federal census. He was the superintendent of a mill, age 64, born CT; she was 52, also born CT.

     Chester Alonzo Hayes was born on 2 May 1821. He was the son of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.¹ Chester Alonzo Hayes married Sarah Catharine Woodruff, daughter of Truman Woodruff and Sarah Ann Hine, on 9 October 1844 at Washington, Litchfield Co., CT.²

Chester and Sarah were enumerated in the 1850 Harwinton, Litchfield Co., CT, federal census (stamped page 251). He was a farmer, age 29, born in CT. She was 28, also born in CT. Children in the household were Chester W. 2, and Charels H. 1.

Chester and Sarah were enumerated in the 1880 Harwinton, Litchfield Co., CT, federal census, page 3 (stamped page 395). He was 59; she was 58. Children in the household were Charles H. 31, Ellen M. 19, John J. 16, and Hattie E. 13.

     Harriet Elizabeth Hayes was born on 5 July 1823.¹ She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.² Harriet Elizabeth Hayes died on 22 April 1824.¹ She was buried at Baptist Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Catherine Elizabeth Hayes was born on 24 July 1827.¹ She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.² Catherine Elizabeth Hayes died on 16 April 1849 at age 21; unmarried.¹ She was buried at Baptist Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Ann Maria Hayes was born on 1 June 1825.¹ She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.² Ann Maria Hayes was buried at Baptist Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ She died on 30 December 1845 at age 20.¹

McPherson gives Ann Maria's birth as 1 Jun 1829, but she died at age 20 so 1825 would be the correct date.

     Martha Pauline Hayes was born on 23 May 1831. She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.¹ Martha Pauline Hayes married Jerome Bursey Ford, son of Robert Ford and Martha Davison, on 3 May 1854 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.²

J. B. and M. P. were enumerated in the 1880 Oakland, Almeda Co., CA, federal census. He was a lumber manufacturer, age 59, she was 49. Children in the household were K. (f) 22, C.D. (m) 21, E.J. (f) 20, L.F. (m) 16, and son-in-law J. Rea a Presbyterian minister, age 35, born in Pittsburg. There is an F. Rea in the household of J. F. Kendall next door, age 2 whose father was born in PA and mother in CA but is listed as a daughter.

     Susan Jane Hayes was born on 1 September 1834. She was the daughter of Chester Hayes and Fidelia Holcombe.¹ Susan Jane Hayes married John E. Chalfant, son of William Chalfant and Elizabeth Edwards, in December 1861.^2,3

John and Susan J. were recorded in the 1880 Cloverdale, Sonoma Co., CA, federal census. He was retired, age 55, she was 45. Children in the household were Martha 17, and Elen L. 15.
