James Cornish died on 22 March 1784 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, at age 89.

James was a farmer, and resided in Simsbury, Ct., where he was one of the leading citizens. His military title was obtained through his connection with the old colonial militia or train bands, being commissioned by vote of the Connecticut General Assembly as Captain.
