Col. Shepard was Us Charge d' Affairs to Japan, 1871-2; consul to Bradford, England, 1877. Col. Charles Otis Shepard was born in 1842. He was the son of (?) Shepard and Rhoda H. Lyman.

     Rev. Asa Lyman was the son of William Lyman.

     Assistant Bishop, Raleigh, NC. Rev. Theodore B. Lyman was born on 15 February 1816. He was the son of Rev. Asa Lyman.

     Roman Catholic Priest, Baltimore, MD. Father Dwight E. Lyman was born in 1818. He was the son of Rev. Asa Lyman.

     President A.B.C.F.M. 1823-1826. Rev. Dr. Joseph Lyman was born on 3 April 1749. He was the son of Jonathan Lyman.

     Truman Gillett was born on 29 July 1783 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Nathan Gillett and Dorcas Holcombe.¹ Truman Gillett married Sophia Spring on 6 March 1827 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹

     Sophia Spring was born on 8 November 1794.¹ She married Truman Gillett, son of Nathan Gillett and Dorcas Holcombe, on 6 March 1827 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Sophia Spring died on 3 May 1867 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT, at age 72.¹

     Governor of NY 1850-52. Gov. Washington Hunt was born on 5 August 1811 at Windham, NY. He was the son of Sanford Hunt and Fanny Rose. Gov. Washington Hunt died on 2 February 1867 at New York City, NY, at age 55.

     Rodolphus Gillett was born circa 1785 at Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ He was the son of Nathan Gillett and Dorcas Holcombe.¹ Rodolphus Gillett married Theodosia Dewey on 14 January 1813 at Village of North Granby, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Rodolphus Gillett died in September 1849 at New London, New London Co., CT.

This family settled in Southwick and is easily confused in the records with an older Rodolphus, son of Seth Gillett. The 1820 census of
Southwick, Mass., shows two persons by the name Rodolphus Gillett in Southwick. He is listed as a son of Nathan in his father’s 1826 estate distribution and is usually referred in the records as Rodolphus 2nd.²

     Theodosia Dewey was born in 1785.² She married Rodolphus Gillett, son of Nathan Gillett and Dorcas Holcombe, on 14 January 1813 at Village of North Granby, Granby, Hartford Co., CT.¹ Theodosia Dewey died on 6 December 1841 at Southwick, Hampden Co., MA.² She was buried at Southwick Cemetery, Southwick, Hampden Co., MA.³

     There is some confusion on Capt. Joseph Loomis, son of Deacon Joseph, Loomis, page 145, item 117; and Joseph Loomis IV, Loomis, page 141, item 68.

Stiles pages 434 and 438 shows Mary Cooley marrying both of them.

Bowman in Vol. I, page 16, item 241, repeats Stiles.

Loomis shows Capt. Joseph marrying May Cooley and Joseph IV marrying Sarah Bissell.

The Bissell genealogy doesn't give a lot of details, page 25, item 4-43, but seems to match Loomis.

This document will follow Loomis. Capt. Joseph Loomis was born on 28 November 1682 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh. Capt. Joseph Loomis married Mary Cooley, daughter of Joseph Cooley and Mary Griswold, on 3 June 1710. Capt. Joseph Loomis died on 30 May 1748 at age 65.

     The Bissell genealogy shows Sarah dying by 1710, but the Loomis genealogy shows two children in 1713 and 1715. Perhaps the three year gap between the 2nd and 3rd children indicates a second wife. Sarah Bissell was born on 12 November 1690 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of John Bissell and Sarah White. Sarah Bissell married Joseph Loomis, son of Joseph Loomis III and Lydia Drake, circa 1708. Sarah Bissell died before 1710.

     Ann Loomis was born on 10 January 1678/79 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.² She was the daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh. Ann Loomis married Job Whitcomb.³ Ann Loomis died at CT.⁴

     Hannah Loomis was born on 10 January 1678/79 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh.

     Joseph Loomis died young. He was born on 13 February 1681/82 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh.

     Grace was John's 2nd wife, no children. Grace Loomis was born on 17 March 1684/85 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh. Grace Loomis married Capt. John Webster, son of Thomas Webster and Abigail Alexander, on 6 August 1709 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT.

     Capt. John Webster was born on 26 February 1673 or 1674. He was the son of Thomas Webster and Abigail Alexander. Capt. John Webster married Grace Loomis, daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh, on 6 August 1709 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT. Capt. John Webster died on 3 November 1735 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT.

     Sarah Loomis was born on 8 January 1693/94 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh. Sarah Loomis married Cornelius Birge on 28 February 1721/22. Sarah Loomis died on 2 October 1776 at age 82.

     Cornelius Birge was born on 30 July 1694. He married Sarah Loomis, daughter of Deacon Joseph Loomis and Hannah Marsh, on 28 February 1721/22. Cornelius Birge died on 23 June 1763 at age 68.

     Sarah White was born on 15 October 1662 at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA. She was the daughter of Lt. Daniel White and Sarah Crow. Sarah White married Thomas Loomis, son of Deacon John Loomis and Elizabeth Scott, on 31 March 1680. Sarah White married John Bissell, son of Quartermaster Thomas Bissell and Abigail Moore, on 12 November 1689 at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA.

     John White was born circa 1596 at Shalford, Co. Essex, England. He was the son of Robert White and Bridget Allgar. John White died on 23 January 1684 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. A web site references the IGI.

     Some information on Elizabeth and her ancestors is from the web and undocumented. Elizabeth White was born on 13 November 1667 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Lt. Daniel White and Sarah Crow. Elizabeth White married Deacon Samuel Loomis, son of Deacon John Loomis and Elizabeth Scott, on 2 July 1688. Elizabeth White died on 18 February 1736 at age 68.

     Capt. Daniel White was born on 4 July 1671 at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA. He was the son of Lt. Daniel White and Sarah Crow. Capt. Daniel White married Sarah Bissell, daughter of Quartermaster Thomas Bissell and Abigail Moore.¹ Capt. Daniel White married Ann Bissell, daughter of Lt. John Bissell and Isabel Mason, on 6 July 1704.¹ Capt. Daniel White married Elizabeth Bliss on 25 April 1710.¹ Capt. Daniel White died on 22 June 1726 at age 54.

     Marriage data on John and Elizabeth is in a note on Thomas Loomis Loomis page 136, item 23. John Crow married Elizabeth Goodwin, daughter of William Goodwin and Susanna Garbrand.

     Elizabeth Goodwin was the daughter of William Goodwin and Susanna Garbrand. Elizabeth Goodwin married John Crow.

     Ensign John Loomis was born on 1 January 1681/82 at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA. He was the son of Thomas Loomis and Sarah White. Ensign John Loomis married Martha Osborne, daughter of Sgt. John Osborn and Abigail Eggleston, on 30 October 1706. Ensign John Loomis died in 1755.

     Loomis also cites the Fowler Genealogy, page 21, and NEHGR, vol VII, p131. Thomas Loomis was born on 20 April 1684 at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., MA. He was the son of Thomas Loomis and Sarah White. Thomas Loomis married Elizabeth Fowler, daughter of Jonathan Fowler and Elizabeth Reynolds, on 8 January 1713. Thomas Loomis married Hannah Hunt on 20 December 1743. Thomas Loomis died on 30 April 1765 at Lebanon, New London Co., CT, at age 81.

     Henry Allyn was born on 16 December 1699. He was the son of Hon. and Col. Matthew Allyn and Elizabeth Wolcott. Henry Allyn married Ann Loomis, daughter of Timothy Loomis and Rebecca Porter, on 22 February 1727 or 1728. Henry Allyn died on 23 June 1753 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 53.

     Ann Loomis was born on 15 June 1698 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Timothy Loomis and Rebecca Porter. Ann Loomis married Henry Allyn, son of Hon. and Col. Matthew Allyn and Elizabeth Wolcott, on 22 February 1727 or 1728. Ann Loomis died on 23 January 1732 or 1733.

     Lois Loomis was born on 15 August 1695 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Timothy Loomis and Rebecca Porter. Lois Loomis died on 20 December 1696 at age 1.

     Rebecca Loomis was born on 24 May 1700 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. She was the daughter of Timothy Loomis and Rebecca Porter.

     Odiah Loomis was born on 4 August 1705 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT. He was the son of Timothy Loomis and Rebecca Porter. Odiah Loomis married Jane Allyn on 1 November 1739. Odiah Loomis died on 15 February 1794 at Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, at age 88.

     Charles Loomis was born on 20 February 1696/97.² He was the son of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter. Charles Loomis married Sarah (?)² Charles Loomis died on 18 October 1778 at Bolton, Tolland Co., CT, at age 81.²

     Lt. Roger Loomis was born in 1703.¹ He was the son of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter. Lt. Roger Loomis married Elizabeth Loomis, daughter of Hezekiah Loomis and Mary Porter, on 6 October 1731.¹ Lt. Roger Loomis died on 10 August 1780.¹

     Sgt. Jerijah Loomis was born in 1707. He was the son of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter. Sgt. Jerijah Loomis died on 29 August 1790.

     Ruth Loomis was born on 21 August 1713. She was the daughter of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter.

     Elisha lists Josiah as a "supposed child of" Nathaniel. Josiah Loomis was born in 1710. He was the son of Ensign Nathaniel Loomis and Ruth Porter.

     Elizabeth Noble was born on 9 February 1673 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.² She was the daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer. Elizabeth Noble married Richard Church on 3 March 1692. Elizabeth Noble married Deacon Samuel Loomis, son of Deacon John Loomis and Elizabeth Scott, on 25 October 1738. Elizabeth Noble died on 10 August 1751 at Colchester, New London Co., CT, at age 78.²

     Richard Church married Elizabeth Noble, daughter of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warringer, on 3 March 1692. Richard Church died on 1 April 1730 at Colchester, New London Co., CT.¹

     Elizabeth Loomis was born in 1689. She was the daughter of Deacon Samuel Loomis and Elizabeth White. Elizabeth Loomis died on 6 August 1689.
