Donald M. Holcomb, 60, of 70 Leonard Road, died Saturday at home. He was a clinical social worker at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Conn., in 1984-88, at the Westfield Area Child Guidance Center in 1968-72, and at the Menninger Foundation in Topeka, Kan., in 1972-79. He also was a psychotherapist in private practice in Westfield and Otis since 1980. Born in Springfield, he grew up in Southwick and was a 1959 graduate of Westfield High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1963, a master's degree in social work from the University of California at Berkeley in 1967, and a master of arts degree from the Andover-Newton Theological School this year. He was a 10-year member of the United Church of Christ Board for World Ministries, served as president for the past six years, and was the intern pastor of the North Hadley Congregational Church in 1998-99. He traveled to many countries as a peace and justice advocate from 1986 to 1999. He leaves his wife, the former Merrilyn Chapin; two sons, David of Pittsburgh and Joel of Troy, N.Y; a daughter, Sarah Marchant of Cumming, Ga; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday morning at United Church of Christ in Westfield, with burial at New Cemetery in Southwick. Calling hours are late Thursday afternoon into the early evening. Firtion-Adams Funeral Service is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Star Island Scholarship Fund, in care of Jodie Hatfield, P.O.
